Note sull'episodio
Adam Miller is a full-time guide at Oak Creek Sporting Club in Brainerd, Nebraska, where he's spent the last nine years leading pheasant hunts and running the sporting clays program. Though relatively new to hunting himself — he got his start just 13 years ago through his wife's family business — he's become a passionate advocate for youth hunting, mentoring kids through Pheasants Forever's Next Step program and helping introduce the next generation to upland bird hunting. Adam runs pointing dogs, favors a 28-gauge over-under in the field, and is dedicated to building lifelong outdoor traditions for hunters of all ages and experience levels.
In this episode, host Jeremy Chvilicek sits down with Adam Miller, a longtime guide at Oak Creek Sporting Club in Nebraska, to talk pheasant hunting, guiding, and building the next generation of upland bird hunters. Adam shares his own path into the sport, the realities of guiding through hot early-season weather, and how Oak Creek's habitat and dog programs support both wild-style and controlled hunts. A large portion of the conversation focuses on youth hunting — including Pheasants Forever's Next Step program, gear and gauge recommendations for kids, and the coaching philosophy Adam uses to keep young hunters engaged and confident. The two also dig into gear choices like the 28-gauge shotgun, the unique format of European-style tower hunts, and how families and CSAs across the country can find similar hunting opportunities. The episode wraps with Adam's advice for parents: get kids outdoors, let them fail and grow, and focus on building memories over trophies.
