Nina Dante - Songs of Our Lives #2

Esplicito
For this episode of Songs of Our Lives, I invite soprano, composer, and my favorite snake-loving witch, Nina Dante, on the show. Nina’s channel, The Snake Said to the River is among my favorite things on the internet, and her full-scale embrace of whimsy and magic is inspiring to me. We have a blast talking about falling for The Boss, questioning if The Bangles were cringeworthy or not, the power of Nina Simone, and so much more. The Seltzer Salon #15: Greta Ruth

Esplicito
When I heard Greta Ruth's The Fawn a couple years ago, I was initially taken by her voice and the way it hung like a ghost within the stark sonic field. It was so captivating. In the years since, her sound has developed and grown, but her voice continues to be the flame that holds it all together. Holy Omen, self-released earlier this month, pushes everything into a new realm. Her words are sharper than ever and musically, the songs are more complex, but just as inviting and timeless. It's really quite something, and I am thrilled to share this conversation we had about it last month. Greta Ruth “Holy Omen” The Seltzer Salon is a concise, conversational podcast hosted by Brad Rose and produced by Foxy Digitalis. Each episode features a musician, artist, writer, or anyone, really, focusing on a single project or idea. I know we all have limited time each day, so I wanted to do something a little smaller scale with just as much impact, so episodes will be 25-45 minutes in length. The Seltzer Salon #14: Matthew Halsall

Esplicito
For the newest edition of The Seltzer Salon, I talked to trumpeter, composer, and so much more, Matthew Halsall, about his new album, An Ever Changing View. It's a stunning album. I've been an admirer of Halsall's work for a while, but this album really swept me up in this lively, vivid world he creates with it. His compositions and trumpet playing are, of course, top notch, but the percussive elements of the album heighten its impact considerably. Add in the full package - custom fonts, cover tapestry, etc - it's an incredible listening experience. It was great to chat about it and hear him discuss those elements and how it came together to produce something so special. The Seltzer Salon #13: Nick Millevoi

Esplicito
I interviewed Nick Millevoi just over a year ago, but when his new album, Digital Reaction, came out, a lot of new questions started popping into my head. Then, he shared the video for "Spins of the Axis" and mentioned it's inspiration from the movie RAD, a favorite of mine as a kid that I a) hadn't thought about it years (decades!?) and b) thought nobody else had seen (I had no idea it was re-released in 2020), and so I knew I needed to do a Seltzer Salon with him. Nick is one of the best guitarists on the planet, but it's the way he uses his skill and technique to explore unexpected zones and, perhaps most notably, have some damn fun always grabs me. Digital Reaction is an absolute joy to listen to. The Seltzer Salon #12: Bob Bellerue

Esplicito
It's no surprise that I am drawn to fellow lifers, and the great Bob Bellerue certainly fits that bill. This was the first time the two of us actually sat down and talked, but having occupied similar and adjacent worlds for the better part of two decades, it was a quick connection. In addition to continuing the great Ende Tymes festival, Bellerue's solo music practice has been expanding and evolving along with his collaborative work. We get into two recent projects - an album with Francisco Meirino, and his new duo, Eternities, with Katie Porter. Lifers for life!
