Burial Beer's Tim Gormley - Songs of Our Lives #16

For this episode of Songs of Our Lives, I invite Burial Beer Company and Visuals Wine’s Tim Gormley on the show. We get deep into the origins of Burial and the ways music inspired them then and continues to as the brand grows into new spaces (they’ve just opened a music venue in Asheville called Eulogy). It was an interesting conversation about the ways music shapes so many of the things we do. Eventually we get into the goods, going on about breakdancing kits featuring Herbie Hancock, the unrelenting abrasiveness of Pharmakon, Paul Simon’s globe-trotting magic, cracking the Richard Skelton code, Joanna Newsom’s exceptionalness, and loads more! Andrew Weathers - Songs of Our Lives #15

For this episode of Songs of Our Lives, I invite Andrew Weathers on the show. Few people have been involved in more of my favorite albums over the last 10+ years, so I was thrilled to chat with him. Andrew’s a real one. We talk about a lot of pop punk, what made Roy Orbison finally click, the sweeter side of Bill Callahan, how improbable and seriously fun The Highwaymen are, American Analog Set’s all-time greatness, and loads more! Aquarelle - Songs of Our Lives #14

For this episode of Songs of Our Lives, I invite Aquarelle aka Ryan Potts on the show. After we talk a bit about his massively underappreciated 2023 album, Verdant Machine, we get into the goods and realize we might just be the same person. We ramble about how much the Ghostbuster theme bangs, the art of being loud, what it is about Trent Reznor that doesn’t quite work for us, how there’s nobody else like Joanna Newsom, one of the best voices we’ve ever heard, the other side of James Brown, the greatest indie rock ever, and so much more! It's me, hi, this entire episode is about ME! A recap of all the things I was up to in 2023, with gratitude and appreciation.

On this episode of the Foxy Digitalis Podcast, I basically talk about myself. I published the big year-end article on the site yesterday, so if you missed it - go check it out! This episode, though, is a recap of the things I was up to with my own work this year, including new albums, new podcasts, and the first public-facing event of a number of eco-focused projects I’m doing. Thanks to everyone for listening and supporting my work and Foxy Digitalis - it means the freaking world. We’re all just trying to drag ourselves over the finish line of 2023 at this point, right? Inching ever closer with a wild collab between Thollem, Terry Riley, & Nels Cline as this week’s pick, plus a couple gems from Argentina & Mexico.

On this episode of the Foxy Digitalis Podcast, my brain is completely and utterly fried and I am just counting down the seconds until things go a little quiet after next week (I thought about literally just counting backwards from however many seconds there are between when I’m writing this and next Friday at 5 PM, but spared y’all). This week’s pick is three heavyweights creating incredible soundscapes unlike anything I’ve ever heard. Plus a couple lovely bits I’ve been listening to from Mexico and Argentina. One more week! Zach Robinson - Songs of Our Lives #11

For this episode of Songs of Our Lives, I invite film composer Zach Robinson on the show. Foxy Digitalis fans may remember Zach from the recent oral history of D/A/D’s “Love Will Make You Stay.” After getting into his recent and upcoming work (Obliterated on Netflix and season six of Cobra Kai), we go into some surprising zones. Zach’s got some great picks that lead us to a surprising side of Kenny G, the unbridled joy of T-Square, Celine Dion’s masterstroke, Drab Majesty’s appeal, the quintessential Ennio Morricone, and a whole lot more! Gregg Kowalsky stops by to talk about hydrophones and synthesizers and his latest album, “Eso Es,” and I ramble on about how obsessed I am with this post-dukes album from Udmurtia. Oh, and it’s Bandcamp Friday - perhaps the last one?!

On this episode of the Foxy Digitalis Podcast, Gregg Kowalsky swings by to talk about his latest album, Eso Es, and how it ended up being something in a different sound world. It’s such a great album, and it was great to catch up. Plus, the album of the week utterly blew my mind and just came out of nowhere (well not true, it’s from Udmurtia). post-dukes are the realest deal. There’s been some exciting new releases announced recently, too, plus one from yours truly - The North Sea’s “Somewhere Between Something & Nothing.” Let’s go!
