The Portrait of a Lady
di Joya & Mia
Joya and Mia reunite for a conversation about Henry James’ indulgent yet chilling character study of a novel, The Portrait of a Lady. Join us as we discuss the American girl in Europe, the moral weight of a monetary gift, and one of the best literary portrayals of an unhappy marriage. Oh, and beautiful Italian villas!
Is Wuthering Heights truly the "greatest love story of all time," or is it something else entirely? Join us, Mia and Joya, as we venture into the moors of Emily Brontë's gothic masterpiece, where love mingles with hate, the living haunt the dead, and time itself stands still. In this episode, we grapple with some of the novel’s central questions: Is Nelly a reliable narrator? Can social commentary exist outside of time and space? Is haunting real? So, grab your tea and join us in the drawing room. We have a lot to discuss.
