Thomas Mitchell, a master barber, SMP artist, entrepreneur, husband, and father of four from Manchester, Connecticut.
Thomas grew up in and around Baltimore in a home shaped by heroin addiction, prison, instability, and fear. Both of his parents battled addiction, and he was separated from siblings and taken into state care as a young child. Years later, Thomas lost both parents on the exact same date, three years apart.
After high school, his dream of playing college football ended. He began working construction, fell into the same cycle of addiction he had spent his life trying to escape, and eventually became homeless. At rock bottom, Thomas got on his knees and asked God to take control of his life. About a month later, while he was sleeping on a city bus at 2:00 a.m., an old high school friend who had become a pastor called and offered him a place to stay. That call changed everything.
Thomas rebuilt his life, met his wife, became a father, and turned a love for cutting hair that began at 10 years old into a career. Today, he owns the award-winning 180 Barbershop, operates 180 Studios, and helps restore confidence through scalp micropigmentation at 180 SMP.
In this raw and honest conversation, Joey Dots and Thomas discuss childhood trauma, addiction, homelessness, faith, forgiveness, fatherhood, marriage, barbering, SMP, entrepreneurship, and what it truly takes to break a generational cycle.
