The Death of Jesus
Esplicito
The Death of Jesus Matthew 27:45-56 Death was announced by the cry of Christ on the cross. The actual cry, “It is finished,” is recorded only in John 19:30. The crucifixion was not a victory for the devil and a defeat of God. It was not an unplanned event or unexpected event for God. It was planned (I Peter 1:18–20; Revelation 13:8) and carried out to the letter by God and Christ. Thank you for tuning into Daily Bible Benefits Have a good and godly Day
The Crucifixion
Esplicito
The Crucifixion Matthew 27:32-44 “They were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull” Verse 33 The location of the crucifixion It was a rocky and hilly area outside of Jerusalem “Golgotha” means skull. The other name given the place was “Calvary” (Luke 23:33) and “Calvary” is translated from the Greek word “kranion” from which we get our English word “cranium” which also has the “skull” meaning. Jesus Is Mocked
Esplicito
Jesus Is Mocked Matthew 27:27-31 Before Christ was crucified, He was chastised severely. He had already been through a similar experience after the religious trial. Now His body takes on more suffering after Pilate’s trial. Chastising was usually done as a preliminary to capital punishment, but here it was part of Pilate’s subtle scheme to release Christ. In Luke 23:16, Pilate is recorded as saying he would “chastise him [Christ] and release him.” Pilate was not chastising Christ in preparation for capital punishment but to satisfy the cruel appetite of the mob. He apparently thought the sight of the suffering would mitigate their cruel desires, but he miscalculated, for the sight of a bloodied Christ only sent the mob into a more clamorous call for His death, for “when the chief priests . . . and officers saw him [in the bloodied condition from the chastising], they cried out . . . Crucify him, crucify him” (John 19:6). Thank you for tuning into Daily Bible Benefits Have a good and godly Day
Pilate Delivers Jesus to Be Crucified
Esplicito
Pilate Delivers Jesus to Be Crucified Matthew 27:24-26 “Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children” Verse 25 This was the response of the people to Pilate’s wanting protection from injustice. The response said more than the people realized. First, it declared innocence. “His blood be on us” says the sentence against Christ was unjust, and He was innocent. Second, it confessed iniquity. “His blood be on us” acknowledges the iniquity of the killing of Christ. The Jews were in fact guilty of murder. Third, it invited injury. “His blood be on us, and on our children.” They got their wish, beginning with the siege on Jerusalem a few years later to all the troubles the Jews have had since then. This horrible murder of Christ has caused the Jews terrible times; but when the Jews turn back to Christ, the troubles for Israel will be over. The Crowd Chooses Barabbas
Esplicito
The Crowd Chooses Barabbas Matthew 27:15-23 “For he knew that for envy they had delivered him” Verse18 Pilate did not perceive a lot of things, but he did readily perceive that it was envy which caused the religious leads of Israel to attack Jesus. Pilate was in politics and knew much about envy. He recognized that it was the envy of the accusers not the evil of the accused that prompted this trial. This recognition said Christ was innocent of the accusations. Pilate repeatedly spoke of the innocence of Christ but did not have the character to execute justice. He was more concerned about the reaction of people than God. Thank you for tuning into Daily Bible Benefits Have a good and godly Day
Jesus Before Pilate
Esplicito
Jesus Before Pilate Matthew 27:11-14 Pilate’s wife warned him about a troubling dream concerning Jesus verse 19 Despite his growing unease, Pilate gave in to the crowd’s demand for crucifixion. He symbolically washed his hands, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood” (Matthew 27:24). Pilate handed Jesus over to be crucified, though he recognized his innocence. Judas Hangs Himself
Esplicito
Today, on the podcast Judas Hangs Himself Matthew 27:3-10 Judas experienced regret but did not seek true repentance or restoration with God. His story contrasts with Peter’s denial of Jesus, where Peter repented and was forgiven (John 21:15-19). • Despair vs. Hope: Judas’ despair led to self-destruction, highlighting the need for hope in God’s mercy, even after sin. No sin is beyond God’s forgiveness when a person turns to Him with a repentant heart. • Fulfillment of Prophecy: The actions surrounding Judas’ betrayal and the use of the silver fulfill Old Testament prophecies, demonstrating the sovereign plan of God in the midst of human sinfulness. Jesus Delivered to Pilate
Esplicito
Jesus Delivered to Pilate Matthew 27:1-2 1 When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death: 2 And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor. The account of Jesus being delivered to Pontius Pilate is found in all four Gospels: Matthew 27:1-2, 11-26, Mark 15:1-15, Luke 23:1-25, and John 18:28-40. This event marks the beginning of Jesus’ formal trial before the Roman governor. Jesus Before the Sanhedrin: After His arrest, Jesus was tried by the Jewish religious leaders (the Sanhedrin). They accused Him of blasphemy for claiming to be the Son of God. Delivered to Pilate: • Because the Jewish authorities lacked the legal authority to carry out a death sentence under Roman rule, they brought Jesus to Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea. • The charge they presented to Pilate was not blasphemy but treason, claiming that Jesus declared Himself to be a king, thus opposing Caesar. Peter Denies Jesus
Esplicito
Peter Denies Jesus Matthew 26:69-75 69 Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee. 70 But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. 71 And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. 72 And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man. 73 And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee. 74 Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew. 75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly. Human Weakness: Peter’s failure shows the fragility of human resolve under pressure Repentance and Forgiveness: Despite his denial, Peter later seeks forgiveness and is restored by Jesus after the resurrection (John 21:15-19). Fulfillment of Prophecy: Jesus’ prediction underscores His divine knowledge. Thank you for tuning into Daily Bible Benefits Have a good and godly Day
Jesus Before Caiaphas
Esplicito
Jesus Before Caiaphas Matthew 26:57-68 The Sanhedrin’s inability to find liars who would aid them in condemning Christ to death was a significant challenge. While they discovered several individuals capable of fabricating stories about Christ, none of them could fabricate lies that would benefit the enemies of Christ. Furthermore, other Gospel accounts mention that the lying witnesses were unable to agree on their fabricated narratives. Only falsehood could condemn Christ Thank you Jesus for Sacrificing you life for ours Thank you for tuning into Daily Bible Benefits Have a good and godly Day
