Matthew 23:23-36
- Fourth, their lack in understanding the will of God was expressed in caring about the trivia of ritual practices and minimizing the great moral precepts meant to be practiced: justice, mercy, and faith (Mat 23:23-24).
- Fifth, the scrupulous attention to the externals of religion led to a disregard of inner perversions (Mat 23:25-26).
- Sixth, the outward conformity of appearance to be seen of men often concealed the inner corruption of moral defilement (Mat 23:27-28).
- Seventh, in relating to the heritage of the religious community, they had copied the worst traits of their fathers, while seeking to disclaim responsibility for the sins of their fathers (Mat 23:29-31).
