An Indianola juvenile died Sunday evening after being struck by a vehicle, according to police. Officers and emergency crews responded shortly before 6 p.m. to the 400 block of West 18th Place. Bystanders were already performing CPR when officers arrived, and crews requested a LifeFlight helicopter because of the injuries. Police are investigating the crash. …

Here is some big news for Iowa football fans: ESPN’s College GameDay is returning to Iowa City for the first time in 20 years. The Hawkeyes will host Ohio State on Oct. 3 at sold-out Kinnick Stadium. Iowa enters the game 4-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while Ohio State is 3-1 overall and 1-0. This will be College GameDay’s second visit to Iowa City. …

Meanwhile, all this rain is creating problems for local lawn-care companies. Spring and fall are normally busy seasons for mowing businesses, but excessive rain has made it difficult to work consistently. The report says September is already Iowa’s second-wettest September on record, with a chance of becoming the wettest month ever recorded in the state. …

Around the state, the Iowa City Community School District says it needs to cut at least $13.8 million by next year. The district is considering consolidating school buildings, programs and staffing, and the school board has begun the process of reviewing all buildings. …

And around the world, British police are investigating whether the arrests of five men near a U.S.-operated air base in England may have prevented an Iran-linked attack. Police also reported finding suspected explosives near RAF Fairford. …

Back here at home, today’s weather calls for clouds clearing, with a high of 72 and a low of 59. The chance of rain is zero percent. Tuesday brings scattered thunderstorms, with a high of 70, a low of 63 and a 70% chance of rain. Wednesday calls for showers, with a high of 70, a low of 61 and a 60% chance of rain. The allergy alert is at a medium level today, rated 5, with ragweed listed as the top allergen. …

In sports, the Iowa football hype continues. Sports Illustrated has Iowa entering the College Football Playoff picture following Week 4. And in Major League Baseball, the Los Angeles Dodgers finished the regular season with 100 victories, beating the San Francisco Giants 5-1 in extra innings. …

And finally, a little history for Sept. 28. In 1941, Ted Williams went 6-for-8 in a doubleheader against Philadelphia and finished the season with a .406 batting average, becoming the first major league player since 1930 to hit .400. …
