Episode 125: Under the Grapevine and Fig Tree - Micah 4-5

Chapter four of Micah is a dark warning and admonition to those who abuse their power and leave the lesser in dire circumstances. We struggle with the meaning of a prophecy that seems to leave us with hopelessness but in the midst of the chastisement is hope. The time of suffering has an end and the promise of coming to the place of God's love and goodness is always held out to us. There is work to be done and it will provide each of us with what we need, to sit beneath our grapevine and fig tree where we will rest and be at peace.

Episode 124: Walk in Rectitude - Micah 2

This second chapter from the prophet is difficult to hear and necessary for all people of God to take in. Micah calls out those who plan iniquity and have the power to carry it out. The prophet is speaking to those in authority but we all have authority over something or someone. The voices in this chapter are hard to distinguish and we can hear them in multiple ways but the message to act rightly permeates chastisement with hope that God will always be with us. This is not a message of certain destruction but a call to goodness. Sometimes that road passes through suffering but we will not be abandoned to it. The truth is hard to hear and digest but leads to life and is worth the challenge.

Episode 123: Let the Mountains Melt - Micah 1

The prophet Micah opens his prophecy with God coming down from his dwelling place to "stride upon the heights of the earth." The people have gone far enough in their sinfulness and God comes as a witness against them. Things are going to get tough for rulers and citizens but as with all the prophets, God's message is not only of destruction but of restoration, of redemption. Woven into the judgment is a promise of redemption. Join us in this timeless message of God's eternal love.

Episode 122: God Prevails - Judges 16

In our final episode of the Samson saga we meet Deliah. She plays a small but pivotal role in bringing Samson through weakness into the truth of his strength. He falls in love with her and becomes vulnerable, giving away his heritage that was gifted to him in his mother's womb. He is brought low only to be raised up and offer his life to God. The god of his nemesis is brought low before the God of Israel and Samson gives himself as God's instrument. It is a truly satisfying ending to a remarkable and strange story of the boy who became the Judge.
