She also is a playwright, has authored eight full-length plays, two children's plays, ten short plays, has two publications, and one appearance in an anthology. Welcome Elaine. She's someone she has known for quite some time, admired for part of that time at least, She has written over 30 plays, a dozen of them published, all of them produced professionally, several articles in books about the craft. She has a book on the craft called "Playwriting Brief and Brilliant," and she’s here to tell us from a vast amount of experience and longevity how it is she does what she does. Welcome, Julie (me).

Today, my extraordinarily special guest is someone I've really admired for years, loved as a person and as a writer. I'm so happy she's here. I'm so happy she lives in Salt Lake, and so happy she does the work she does. Melissa Leilani Larson. This series is focused on how playwrights do what they do. And you are one of the most prolific of all the writers I've ever heard of. A remarkable number of plays, 22 plays, 19 of them have been produced, some of them many times, two published and two anthologized. This is also a fairly young woman. We actually deign to talk to younger people sometimes if they meet the qualifications of having been writers all of their lives.

Our guest today is one of the most outstanding, and I'm going to call him young writers in the state, in the country, certainly in Salt Lake City, Matt Bennett. He has written 17 plays. All of these have been produced. 12 radio plays, 26 short plays, a full-length film, two short films, and a novella. It's remarkable to me that you have such an impressive output, and thank you so much for talking with us.

We have a special guest today, David Kranes, one of the greatest writers in America, author of seven novels, three volumes of short stories, and a playwright who has had 40 professional productions, plus a film. This interview, unlike others, perhaps, is focused on how he does what he does, rather than what he has done. I am interested always in how people make their most remarkable art, and it seems to be a subject that we haven't covered enough. So, David, welcome, and I'm so gratified to be able to talk to you today.
