THE SELF-CHECKOUT SHOWDOWN
Hello!
Welcome to Cager’s Coffee Break,
Have you ever gone through self-checkout because you thought this would be quicker? Famous last words. You scan the first item. Beep. Wonderful. Second item. Beep. Look at you—practically an employee! Then suddenly the machine announces, “UNEXPECTED ITEM IN BAGGING AREA!” Now everybody within three aisles knows you apparently cannot be trusted with a loaf of bread. You remove it. Put it back. Remove it again. The light starts flashing, and somewhere an employee is slowly making her way toward you while you stand there trying to explain yourself to a machine. Sometimes coffee can be a little like that—we assume the simplest-looking things don't require much thought. But brewing a satisfying cup is really an extraction process: water draws flavor compounds from the ground coffee as it passes through. Change the grind, amount of coffee, water, or brewing time, and you can change what winds up in your cup. Faith works through a process, too. We sometimes pray today and expect everything to be settled by tomorrow. But God may be working in areas we cannot see yet. Hebrews 11:1 reminds us, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Just because you cannot see God working doesn't mean He isn't working. So, when life starts flashing “UNEXPECTED ITEM,” don't assume everything has gone wrong. Trust God through the process, pour yourself a good cup of coffee, and keep moving forward. Visit Cager’s Coffee Hut at www.cagerscoffeehut.com, and remember to keep brewing kindness one cup at a time.
