Welcome to Cager’s Coffee Break!
Have you ever gone to the grocery store for one thing?
You walk in determined.
“I only need milk.”
Twenty minutes later you're pushing a cart containing crackers, candles, shampoo, cookies, batteries, dog treats—and somehow you've forgotten the milk.
You get all the way home.
Put everything away.
Open the refrigerator.
And there it is.
No milk.
At this point, don't go back to the store.
Make coffee.
Today Snooty is making her second appearance of the week—but we're learning something completely different about coffee: sorting.
Before coffee reaches your cup, green coffee may go through several stages of sorting and grading. Producers and processors work to separate beans based on characteristics such as size, density, and visible defects.
Some systems use screens containing holes of different sizes. Beans pass through—or remain above—different screens, helping separate them according to size.
Modern operations may also use sophisticated optical sorting equipment that can identify beans based on color or other visual characteristics.
Think about that.
Your coffee can receive more inspection before breakfast than some of us give our entire outfit before leaving the house.
And all of those steps matter because consistency matters.
Growing, harvesting, processing, drying, sorting, shipping, roasting, grinding, and brewing all contribute something to the journey.
By the time you pour Snooty into your mug, you're enjoying the result of many hands and many stages.
Maybe that's a good reminder to appreciate the ordinary things we often take for granted.
That morning cup isn't quite so ordinary after all.
Neither is the person sitting across from you.
Neither is the sunrise outside your window.
Neither is another day.
So enjoy Snooty today—fruity, floral, nutty, and just appropriately snooty enough to make your morning interesting.

And the next time you go grocery shopping for one thing?
Write it down.
Better yet, write it on your hand.
"...and remember keep brewing kindness one cup at a time"
