Paul says the body is one thing made of many parts, and that not everybody gets the same work — some apostles, some teachers, some helpers, and the list ends without anyone being told they don't belong. The psalm gives the reason underneath it: we didn't make ourselves. He made us, we are his, and we're the sheep of his pasture, which is not a description of people who earned their place. Then John shows you what that looks like when it costs something. Dying, with almost everyone gone, Jesus looks at his mother and the disciple standing there and makes them family to each other. He doesn't leave her to fend for herself. That's the body being one thing — not a feeling about each other, but somebody taking somebody else home.
