Not even a spare tunic. Just the sandals on their feet, a staff in hand, a jar of oil, and His authority. Mark’s account of this sending raises big questions: Why were they told to travel light? Why does Mark say they could take a staff and sandals, while Matthew and Luke forbid them? What did it mean to shake the dust off their feet? And why would Jesus say it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the judgment than for towns that reject His messengers?
