The Potential of Genius in Persons with Disabilities (Rerun)

Unfortunately, one of the most overlooked and devalued groups of people are those with disabilities. In the USA, the most progressive country in the world, there is still great disparity in the treatment and access to school and work opportunities for differently-abled persons, especially those with non-visible and mental disabilities. We can openly discuss the disparity by our willingness to consider the potential of genius within every human being, regardless of the level of their abilities. Our special guest is Dr. Will Moreland, a military veteran and author of the critically acclaimed book Genius Potential. He is known as America's #1 Leadership Life Trainer and appears frequently on national television shows to share his insights on leadership, personal development and current events. Empowered to Heal from Mental Illness

Has the bombardment of news about deadly shootings as they relate to mental illness increased your apprehension to hire and teach persons with mental or learning challenges? Has the news disempowered students and employees to seek accommodations in the workplace or at school? Unfortunately, there are many educators, employers, health care professionals, and even religious leaders who are not aware of the potential of those diagnosed with mental illness. In many communities, the access to mental health services, including medications, is still a major problem. Our Special Guest, Dr. Daniel Fischer, Author and Advocate, is a board-certified psychiatrist who completed his residency at Harvard Medical School. Most importantly, he has recovered from schizophrenia and is Executive Director of the National Empowerment Center. Host, Dr. Danita Applewhite is joined by students, teachers, and Veterans to discuss the solutions needed to empower others to succeed. We must address the fear and anxiety surrounding our students, teachers, and staff within our schools. This rerun show will prove helpful to the recent school shootings in Sparks, Nevada to Arapahoe. Although violence and gun shootings reported by the media overwhelm us there are even more issues that must be addressed, such as mentally-ill teachers and students, molestation, and sexual harassment in religious, private, and public schools. It is critical that we trust those in leadership positions to help solve the problems not create them. Join Dr. Applewhite and guests in their discussion of the real solution which is LOVE. Students Discuss Healing From The Stress of Racism(Rerun)

The anxiety and stress from racism has affected people of all races and ethnicities, especially African-Americans! It is anticipated that our discussion will encourage teachers and counselors to explore the psychological impact of racism in African-American, as well as other students of all ages. The media has placed great attention on the George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin murder trial and there are many broken hearts over the verdict. The continued political and media hype are shining light on the negative statistics associated with unemployment, education, and poverty of African-American males. Although the statistics are relevant, it is necessary that we shine light on the progress of African-Americans and how many people do "get along" regardless of race. Veterans will speak about how the military has also progressed in the area of racism. Join Dr. Applewhite and guests in a positive discussion on ways to heal the scars of racism. Special Guest Dr. Beverly Johnson, retired ASU professor, author. Students & Veterans Discuss Depression at School

Can you share an explanation of why mental disorders and suicides have increased among Student Veterans and other Adult Learners? Most critical is how teachers at all levels are identifying and addressing violent and aggressive behavior, mood disorders, and suicidal tendencies. The American Psychological Association states that “untreated depression can lead to suicide”. This is cause for alarm, specifically with Student Veterans who are balancing disability issues, in addition to family, school, and work schedules. Our media places great attention on murder-suicide incidents, for example the recent loss of Senator Creigh Deeds’ son, and so many others because intervention was not available. Unfortunately, minimal attention is given to effective and positive prevention, as well as, intervention. Join Host, Dr. Danita Applewhite and guests in sharing techniques to identify and overcome depression. Welcome back Special Guests Melinda Vail, Intuitive Therapist and Steve Schiro, Educator and President of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, (AZ Chapter). They will share an update on the success of the nationwide “Out of Darkness Walks” to bring awareness, comfort and assistance to those dealing with this daunting problem. HEALING From Violence in Our Schools -Rerun

During this holiday season, the staff of White Apple Institute joins the many families and friends in their grief and celebration of life for the innocent lives lost to random shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary, Columbine, Virginia Tech, Arapahoe and so many more. Also, let us not forget the victims of gang violence in urban area schools whether the tragedy is caused by automatic or single-shot handguns. Healing, both physical and psychological healing is a process of restoring a situation to a balanced or functioning state. The emotional scars in the healing process are usually seen or felt long after the traumatic situation or damage is over. Repairing or restoring our mental/emotional state is far more challenging than fixing the physical wounds. Psychological healing from the shootings at schools in urban, suburban or rural areas is a tremendous challenge for concerned citizens of America and the world. The Student2teacher show has always focused on topics that will help students and teachers succeed in school/college and work, even with mental and physical disabilities.

Why violence is increasing among students? Rerun

Have you wondered why the violence is increasing, especially in our schools/colleges? It is important to ask WHY but let’s ask each other HOW we can minimize it. Dr. Applewhite and guests take a look at startling statistics shared about violence among students. Listen to this rerun show and become better educated about mental disabilities and minimize the fear about violence associated with those diagnosed with mental illness.

Quality of Life for Students and Teachers (Rerun)

One of the greatest concerns that remain characteristic of our world is how a person can improve their quality of life. Do you believe teachers improve the “Quality of Life” for students and Veterans? How do the values and attitudes of parents and teachers influence student performance?. Most people, with the exception of teachers, assume a better life and job are based on our material possessions that we call valuable. However, most teachers focus on the intangible rewards of their “job” as most valuable. The staff of White Apple Institute encourages Listeners to look at what we call valuable and what things we need to succeed at school and work. Special Guest Jennifer Ramirez, Author, Teacher. Hear a special mention of the late Nelson Mandela at the close of this show.
