Obaro Jesse Erome-Utunedi, also known as OBJ, started his life in Nigeria, but at the age of 11, his family embarked on a journey that took them to Venezuela in South America. Eventually, they landed in the United States before OBJ eventually found his home in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Despite his academic background in Mechanical Engineering, OBJ has emerged as a remarkably talented actor and a creative force in Calgary. Join us as OBJ shares his unique perspective on how his experience of blackness has transformed across the diverse landscapes he's traversed. From leaving Nigeria at a tender age to living in three continents, OBJ reflects on the profound impact on his sense of self and identity. The Kindness of Strangers with Pulga

Pulga Muchochoma was born in Mozambique where his dance career and training began with Montes Namuli Dance Company. He studied at The School of Toronto Dance Theatre and in 2009 he joined the company. He's a well established performer, dancer, and choreographer in Toronto and he's also the founder of Pulga Dance since 2015. I had the opportunity to work with Pulga on a project and what an amazing talent and soul he is. In this episode Pulga shares his story of how his life was changed by the kindness of a stranger who saw potential in him. We discuss his journey of learning the English Language from a dictionary, preserving and passing on aspects of his culture to his kids, people's perspectives around accents and English as a first language.
