por Beth
Temporada 1

Episode 54; David Vernon Lovely and Badasses Tamara Brooks and Jacqueline Marris

Dear Crime Family: It's BnB Friday!! And today is another one where we can't wait to tell you our customary two stories, to first touch your heart and then bring you survivors to be proud of and positive about. Bailey found a case that you've surely never heard of: This is the story of a family in the 1980's, who were traveling from California to Massachusetts, and only a fraction of the way home, the 19 year old son disappeared in Wyoming. What people abroad don't always understand is how vast the United States is. And somewhere in the nearly 3,000 mile drive from Huntington Beach, CA to Massachusetts, David Vernon Lovely simply disappeared, and no one would help his family look for him. And Beth is so excited to tell you about the story of two young, badass warriors from California who were individually victimized by a guy who literally had nothing left to lose. But these young women made the decision that the two of them, their sisterhood, was enough. They chose to get each other through their trauma. This case is an illustration of why caring for others is how we survive as individuals. At the start of this episode, we played the trailer for In the Nick of Crime. The cohostesses, Michelle and Courtney, are snarky, funny, kind-hearted, and are 100% in the corner of all victims. So we love them, and we think you will, too. Please check out In the Nick of Crime Podcast, wherever you listen to podcasts. We are so grateful that you have chosen to listen to us, and we thank you. Please grab a glass on your way in, and let's get to telling some stories about true crime. Love you guys!! . . . . . Episode 53; Cecil and Ruth Bybee and Penhold Alberta Home Invasion

Explícito
Hello, welcome back to the BnB! Do you feel it? Spring is in the air!! Or maybe we are just thinking of camping because this episode seems to be RV-centered. Beth starts with the story of the completely inexplicable murders of Cecil and Ruth Bybee, who were seasoned travelers. But the one time they broke their routine, they crossed paths with a man who was having some kind of cold feet, marriage-avoidance crisis. Seriously--this story is so unexplainable that it begs theorization. Then Bailey has a home invasion case where the family did not want to be identified, but you will still feel like you know them. This family in Penhold, Alberta, Canada had three encounters with a seemingly-confused home invader within two days--and lived to tell the tale. They are still healing, but they did what they needed to, to survive. At the beginning of this episode, you heard the trailer of Live, Laugh, Murder. Carmen and Joanna are not only creating a fantastic and entertaining podcast that is 'true crime, sometimes,' but they are genuinely sweet and adorable women that we just love, and we know you will, too. Please check them out and subscribe. You won't be disappointed!! Crime family, this episode is SOMETHIN' ELSE, so pick a comfy chair, grab a glass of your favorite spirits, and let's talk about true crime. As ever, we love you and thank you for listening. . . . . . If you enjoy our show, please share our episodes on social media--that's the greatest way to help us find new listeners. Episode 52; Cremer Young and Patricia Wenskunas

Explícito
Crime Family, this episode is crazy!!!We're so excited to share this with you! First, your favorite Bad Guy, Bailey, is bringing you an out-of-character story about an 8-year-old who was caught in the middle of over a decade of ridiculous, stalkerish drama that his parents tried to, but were unable to, extricate themselves from. This is the story of the murder of Cremer Young in mid-1960's Shaker Heights, Ohio. But trust us--Beth's story is going to leave you on the right note! Patricia Wenskunas spent her whole life being victimized by one person after another, and knew she had to find a way to end the cycle. And when the person who was supposed to be helping her heal turned out to be a long-game predator who was taking advantage of her vulnerability, she had to rise up and save herself. But she didn't stop there. She has made all the difference to thousands--and don't call them victims: they are SURVIVORS. Patricia's crime survivors' advocacy organization is: https://www.crimesurvivors.org and her public speaking interface is https://patriciawenskunas.com/ This story is worth waiting for! Also, at the beginning of the episode, we played the trailer for our friends, pod-buddies, and Beanie Winners M3: Murder, Mystery Mayhem. Please go give them a listen. Episode 51; Duffy's Cut and Valerie Kasper

Explícito
Welcome back to everyone! Happy New Year! The first regular episode of 2023 brings us two stories, one from 1832 Philadelphia and the other from 2021 Atlanta. Duffy's Cut is known for being the location of the unnatural and mysterious deaths of 57 Irish laborers, and Bailey will explain the lore as well as the newly-revealed truths that paint a clearer picture of what happened in Malvern, 30 miles west of Philadelphia. Beth has a survivor story from Atlanta, with the story of Valerie Kasper. Valerie was a pregnant mother of a 3 year old, and one day while walking with her son, she was randomly attacked and stabbed by a stranger. This story is about the healing and resilience of a family built from love, and the strength with which they face their future challenges together. In this episode we share the trailer for Crime Scenes and Cupcakes, and hope you will go and check out her podcast as well as Kocktail Kupcakes--MaryAnne has created the most beautiful cupcake following the theme of our podcast! Thank you for joining us today, and we raise our glass with all of you for a wonderful 2023! Cheers, Crime Family! . . . . . Episode 50; Nancy Anderson and Kidnapped Scammers

Explícito
Can you believe it?? This is our fiftieth episode, and we thank you, dear Crime Family, for supporting us all these months, and for joining us today! This week starts with Bailey telling the story of Nancy Anderson, who wanted to see more of the world, so she left Bay City, Michigan for a new life in Hawaii. She was making friends, had a job, and was excited about her future until she was attacked in her apartment by a killer, whose identity was not known until this year. That's right, this is another occurrence of DNA bringing a very old, very cold case back to justice. Then Beth doesn't have a survivor story. That's right. Sorry, but she found out that a lot of text/social media scammers are actually not doing it out of their own greedy impulses. So after looking more into this, she covers two cases. One is a man who was taken for over $1M in a texting crypto-scam, and the other story is a man who was promised a good job with good pay, but was ultimately kidnapped and trafficked as a texting crypto-scammer. Learn why not all people who are 'butchering pigs', as the scam bosses call it, are necessarily the real problem. And, in this episode we are announcing the winner of the True Crime BnBeanie! Listen to the end for this announcement as well as our well wishes for a happy and fortuitous 2023! We love you, be happy, be safe, and may your world be peaceful in the new year! . . . . . Episode 49; Angelika Graswald and Susan and Mike Gonzalez

Explícito
Hello, dear Crime Family, and thank you all for being here for Episode 49! This week Beth is talking about the case that was known in the media as "The Kayak Killer," but we're not so certain it's that cut-and-dried. Angelika Graswald became infamous after her fiance Vince Viafore drowned on a couple's kayaking trip out to the ruins on Bannerman's Island in the Hudson River. The headlines focused on the prurient points of this case--maybe it's less black-and-white than it was made out to be. Bailey has an amazing story of survival against all the odds, where Susan and Mike Gonzalez not only lived to tell, but also took down a team of vicious home invaders that had plagued a city in Florida for way too long. You won't want to miss this story. This week, we are sharing the promo for our lovely friend Sam from Creme de la Crime Podcast. She covers cases that are unsolved and cases that need to have more light shined upon them so the families can get answers. Sam is wonderful, diligent, and puts her whole heart into the cases she covers; please listen and subscribe. Considering this is a holiday weekend, we hope you are well, we hope you are happy, and we hope you are safe. We love you, Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it. Have a cup of cheer, on us. . . . . . Episode 48; Tina Marcotte and the Austin Treaty Oak

Explícito
Y'all! Episode 48 is in your earholes! Thank you for popping back in for today's stories, where Bailey is first with the completely pointless murder of Tina Marcotte. Tina deserved so much better than her killer did by her. He was a useless loser with a stupid lie of an alibi, and there was no way he was ever going to get away with it. But you don't want to miss how he solved THAT problem. It's gross, but in this situation, he deserved what he got. And then Beth has a different kind of survivor story. The murder attempt turned into a race against time to save the victim, who lost 2/3 of herself. Today's survivor is 600 years old, has seen more history than most of us combined, and the reason this victim was attacked was for the most pathetic of reasons. Listen to how a guy confessed at his methadone clinic to being the person who nearly killed the Austin Treaty Oak, which has been part of Texas history since before there was a USA. There's more to this story than you might think. Thank you for joining us today. You know how much you mean to us, and we hope you are getting your entries in for the True Crime BnBeanie Giveaway on December 28, which will be announced in our December 30th Episode 50! We're so excited to reach this milestone, and we could not have gotten here without you. Check out Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter for the ways to enter. See below for our profile tags. Episode 47; Marianne Shockley and Wanda Palmer

Explícito
Happy to see you, Crime Family, and we have some stories, a podcast to share, and some giveaway news in this episode! Bailey is first with her telling of the tragic story of three college friends just having a relaxing night together at one of their homes, which ends in not one of their deaths, but two. Marianne Shockley was killed in her friend Clark Heindel's hot tub, and when he found out what had happened, he couldn't live with the tragedy of it. Beth follows behind with the story of Wanda Palmer, who was attacked in her home in 2020 and spent the next two years deep in a coma. While she was unconscious, her case went pretty close to cold, as there wasn't enough evidence to charge anyone in the crime. But Wanda wasn't down for the count. You'll want to hear her survival story and how she finally solved the mystery of what happened to her. Also--don't forget about Johnathan, the WORLD'S OLDEST LIVING LAND ANIMAL! Johnathan, a Seychelles Giant Tortoise, is celebrating his birthday this year, and you will not believe how old he is! After you finish listening to this episode, please go check out our sweet friend Patrick at Not Adding Up Podcast. Patrick creates a no-drama, all respect for victims, and no wild theories podcast. He looks at cases that simply don't add up based on the evidence, and he asks excellent questions and points out what he sees as the weak points in the investigation. After you check him out, please subscribe so you can get caught up on his episodes. AND, last but not least, we are having a Fiftieth Episode Giveaway! In our December 30th, Episode 50, we are giving away a True Crime BnBeanie through a random drawing to select a winner. Episode 46; 1921 Parma OH Teacher Murders & 2016 Columbus Restaurant Machete Attack

Explícito
Not gonna lie, Crime Family, Episode 46 caught us a little bit by surprise. We both independently came up with 'hometown' stories and didn't plan it that way. So, we welcome you on our trips down memory lane, as we have seen too much heaviness in the news lately and just needed to turn down the heat on current events. For a record-setting third episode in a row, Beth is back as the bad guy. This week she covers a murder that took place in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio in 1921. Parma Township, the predecessor to the City of Parma, was a rural farming community that had a tiny, one-room schoolhouse called the Parma Central School. In February, 1921, its two teachers were brutally bludgeoned to death on a rural road on the way to catch the streetcar home. Hear the details of the case, the theories, and the suspects. Also, we'll discuss the well-intentioned but mindless destruction of the crime scene by local searchers, which is likely why this haunting case remains unsolved 101 years later. Bailey also takes us back to her hometown in the northeast suburbs of Columbus, Ohio. In 2016, a beloved local restaurant was targeted in a terroristic machete attack that injured four people, several critically. The aftermath of this attack nearly wiped out the restaurant, but Bailey will fill you in on how the victims are doing six years later. She'll also tell how the Owner of the Nazareth Restaurant has fared through the years, and how his positive outlook is part of his local appeal. When you finish this episode, please go check out Deb and Beth (or Shelby) at Dying to be Found, whose trailer you hear at the beginning. We are podcaster buddies with Deb and we were honored to be invited to join her in her Episode 41 a couple of weeks ago. So please give Dying to be Found a listen, and subscribe so you won't miss any of their episodes. We are feeling a little bit nostalgic after this episode, so we are going to have a glass of wine in front of the fire, give our fluffy black cat extra treats, and you are, as always, welcome to join us. Thank you for stopping by, we're glad you're here! . . . . . Episode 45; Architect Mayhem David Michael Bolasky and Mhlengi Gwala

Explícito
Hello, and thank you for stopping back in for Week 45! We are sharing two brutal and maddening crimes against two amazing men this week, so get set to hear their stories. Beth is first with the 8th Installment of Architect Mayhem, and in this case the Architect was Allentown, PA's David Michael Bolasky. David was an accomplished Architect and all-around great human who was brutally killed in 1995 by a bunch of incompetent fools. The circumstances of his murder are especially sickening because there was no way the perpetrators could have really thought they had any chance to get away with it. They destroyed an amazing person for absolutely nothing. Bailey, as she does, will take us through a truly horrific crime against a South African triathlete. Mhlengi Gwala was taking life one day at a time and doing what he could to find health and happiness for himself and his two daughters. This crime was so cruel and monstrous that it's a miracle he survived and a credit to his inner strength that he came back from it stronger than before. Mhlengi is a billboard for the human spirit. These are both rough stories, but you'll leave feeling good about the capacity of a person to embrace life on his own terms and make the most of every minute he has. Have a seat by the fireplace, we'll be right in with spiked cocoa and don't worry. You're safe in here with us, Crime Family. When you finish this episode, why not go check out True Crime in Academia Podcast with Mary DiPipi, and Ivory Tower Boiler Room. Their trailer can be heard at the beginning of this episode. Mary is a great interviewer, and we were fortunate to have been on her show a few weeks ago--please check it out! Also, she covers true crime committed by, or towards, academics. It's a great listen!
