Do we ever really stop and think about how pressure affects young kids and not only their performance but their psyche as well? I think there are lessons learned particularly in situations where we have put more experienced kids in roles where they are meant to be "captains" when maybe they aren't ready for it quite yet. Also, what do you do when kids are having issues off the the field and they need to use sports as an escape? We need to provide that for these kids and be there for them with and "open door policy". Kids that continue to defy expectations and improve are something to cherish. not only do they give you positive affirmation that what you are doing as coaches is working but it also is something that should be publicly recognized to boost their psychology as well. This could be an unpopular opinion amongst some folks, but I am of the opinion that we cant let whining and crying creep into youth sports. There's really no place for it. Is there a "crying time out"-- NO. What would we be teaching kids if we were to allow them to just cry every time something doesn't go their way on the field??? maybe that's what's wrong with young people today? maybe they think they can jsut cry about something and they will get their way? Figures.....sign your kids up for sports and don't let them whine their way through it and cry about everything. Make sure you have a coach that will push them!
