EP 1.5 - An Ounce of Prevention: Jennifer Matthews & Lisa Cripps with the DeKalb Prevention Coalition

You’ve probably heard the old saying, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” This week on The Tom Duggin Show with Jordan Atnip, we find out how that idea is being put into action right here in DeKalb County. Our guests are Jennifer Matthews and Lisa Cripps with the DeKalb Prevention Coalition, and they join Tom & Jordan for a conversation about the Coalition’s mission, the work being done throughout our community, and why prevention, education, awareness, and community involvement can make such a tremendous difference. What exactly does the DeKalb Prevention Coalition do? Who do they serve? What challenges are they working to address? And how can local residents, parents, schools, businesses, and organizations become part of the effort? Jennifer and Lisa help answer those questions while giving us a closer look at the people and purpose behind the organization—and why building a healthier, safer community starts long before a problem reaches the crisis stage. It’s another conversation focused on DeKalb County people doing important work for DeKalb County people. The Tom Duggin Show with Jordan Atnip Local Topics. Special Guests. No Filter.

EP 1.4 — Tony Cross: A Great Friend to DeKalb County

If you’ve spent much time around DeKalb County, chances are you know Tony Cross — or at least you know of him. Maybe you knew Tony during his many years as a TWRA Wildlife Officer. Maybe you’ve shared breakfast and conversation with him at DeKalb Market, worshipped alongside him and his family at Elizabeth Chapel, or spotted him on Friday nights supporting the Tigers at a DCHS football game. But how much do you really know about Tony Cross and the story that brought him to DeKalb County? In Episode 1.4 of The Tom Duggin Show with Jordan Atnip, Tony joins Tom and Jordan for a conversation about the road that led him to a career with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, how he eventually made DeKalb County home, and some of the experiences and relationships he collected along the way. Tony began working with TWRA as a fisheries technician in 1988, later became a boating officer on Dale Hollow Lake and a wildlife officer in Van Buren County, before transferring to DeKalb County in 1996. He ultimately retired after more than three decades of service with the agency. But this episode isn't just about the uniform. Tony talks about family, faith, friendship and community, shares stories from his career, and tells us what life looks like now that retirement has given him a little more freedom to enjoy the outdoors from the other side of the badge. There are stories, laughs, memories and plenty of conversation with a man who came to DeKalb County for a job — and ended up making it home. 🎙️ EP 1.4 — “Tony Cross: A Great Friend to DeKalb County” The Tom Duggin Show with Jordan Atnip Special Guests. EP 1.3 – A Beacon In The Community: Aaron Young, CEO of Lighthouse Christian Camp

Most people in DeKalb County know about Lighthouse Christian Camp. But, do you really KNOW about Lighthouse Christian Camp?? In Episode 1.3 of The Tom Duggin Show with Jordan Atnip, Tom and Jordan sit down with Aaron Young, CEO & Executive Director of Lighthouse Christian Camp, for an inside look at an organization that has been making a difference in the lives of children in need throughout the Upper Cumberland since the early 1980s. Aaron takes us behind the scenes to discuss the programs Lighthouse offers, the countless volunteers who make its mission possible, and the impact the camp has had on children and families over the years. He also breaks down what it takes financially to operate Lighthouse and uphold one of its most important commitments: no child ever pays a single penny to attend camp. But this episode goes beyond facts and numbers. Aaron shares his personal testimony, the journey that brought him to Lighthouse, and why its mission has become such an important part of his life. How many people does it take to make Lighthouse happen? What does it cost to provide these opportunities completely free to children? And what happens when a community comes together to invest its time, resources, and heart into kids who need it? If you've ever driven past Lighthouse Christian Camp, heard the name, donated, volunteered, or simply wondered what really happens there, this is an episode you don't want to miss. 🎙️ EP 1.3 — “A Beacon in the Community” Special Guest: Aaron Young, CEO & Executive Director of Lighthouse Christian Camp The Tom Duggin Show with Jordan Atnip Special Guests.
