On this week's episode we talk to the legendary Emmy-nominated composer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Tim Lauer. A true secret weapon of the industry, Tim has worked on hundreds of major label albums across every genre imaginable. He has worked with artists from Taylor Swift and Dolly Parton to Megadeth and the Smashing Pumpkins. His TV credits include serving as the Executive Music Producer for the hit show Nashville, as well as on shows like Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist and Greenleaf where he wrote and performed the show's main theme song with vocals from legendary singer Mavis Staples. Currently, Tim is releasing music with his own band Bien and is the Executive Music Producer Amazon Prime Video series Rose Hill releasing later this year. Our guest this week is songwriter and musician John Garrison. First finding fame as the frontman of acclaimed rock band Budapest, John has become one of the world's premier session musicians working with artist from Benson Boone and Christina Aguilera to Lewis Capaldi and Robbie Williams. Most notably, John as worked with James Blunt for the last 19 years as his bassist. Currently, John is preparing to release his song 'Remembrance' under the project Satellites on 28th August. The Mixtape Me- Bashiri Johnson
In this episode we speak to one of the most recorded and visible percussionists in the industry, Bashiri Johnson. Brought up in the Bed-Stuy district of Brooklyn and mentored by the legendary jazz musician James Mtume, his career first took off in the late 70s after achieving a gold record for Stephanie Mills 'Whatcha Gonna Do With My Lovin'. Since then, his career has gone from strength to strength playing on era defining anthems by artists including Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Miles Davis, and Aretha Franklin to name just a few. Most notably, he spent 20 years as the percussionist in Whitney Houston's live touring band. Furthermore, this is the first guest on the podcast who played at the iconic Live Aid concert providing backing for Hall & Oates and the iconic duet between Mick Jagger and Tina Turner. The Mixtape Me- Khari Mateen
In this week's episode, we speak to cellist, composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Khari Mateen. In 2006, when he was just 19 years old, he secured his first major milestone co-producing and arranging on The Roots Grammy nominated album Game Theory. Since then, he has gone onto work with artists including Jill Scott, Teddy Swims, and Post Malone. He then transitioned into composition for film and television, scoring projects that went onto receive Emmy and Peabody nominations. Most recently, he scored the highly anticipated Sundance documentary Jane Elliott Against the World which will be release later this year. The Mixtape Me- Alex Murray-Leslie
This week's guest is the legendary founder of electroclash disrupters Chicks on Speed, Alex Murray-Leslie. Founding the group in 1997, they bridged the gap between the Dadaist art philosophy and synth-punk tonalities. Since then, they have gone on to collaborate with everyone from Yoko Ono to Karl Largerfeld and, in 2003, released their era defining anthem 'We Don't Play Guitars' featuring Peaches. Currently, Alex is a Professor of Digital Performance and is an artistic researcher, pioneering research into 'objektinstruments'- interactive wearable musical technology that turns fashion and the human body into live synthesisers. The Mixtape Me- Davide Rossi
In this weeks episode we talk to a true musical genius and multi-intrumentalist Davide Rossi. He first picked up an instrument at age four before entering the Turin Conservatory in 1981. Since then, he has worked with a vast array of critically acclaimed artists. He went on to spend 13 years touring as the electric violinist for Goldfrapp. By 2008, he reached global acclaim, headlining Glastonbury with The Verve and composing the iconic string arrangements for Coldplay’s Viva la Vida. Our guest this week is a multi-instrumentalist and rock 'n' roll frontman, Paul-Ronney Angel. Originally from Norway, his musical output changed forever in 2002 when he formed a theatrical nine-piece musical collective, the Urban Voodoo Machine. They have gone from strength to strength ever since releasing the seminal album 'Bourbon Soaked Gypsy Blues Bop 'n' Stroll' and collaborating with legendary artists including Wilko Johnson, Jim Jones, and even sharing the stage with Goran Bregovic. The Mixtape Me- Smokey Hormel
In this episode we talk to guitar supreme Smokey Hormel. First finding fame as a guitarist in the band the Blasters, he has gone on to have one of the most eclectic careers in the music industry working with artists including; Tom Waits, Adele, Norah Jones, Beck, and Joe Strummer just to name few. However, he is probably most well-known for his work on Johnny Cash's string of iconic Rick Rubin produced albums in the 90s, including the seminal single 'Hurt'. Smokey has been a part of Beck's band for 30 years and is featured on Beck's 2026 single 'Ride Lonesome'.
