Rick and Morty S02E04 — Total Rickall

Rick and Morty are trapped in the Smith house after Rick seals the blast shields to contain memory parasites — aliens that embed false histories into people's minds and multiply every time anyone shares a flashback. The house fills with absurd fake friends and relatives until Morty cracks the parasites' structural weakness: they can only implant positive memories, so anyone you remember badly is provably real. The family arms up and runs a bad-memory test down the roster, confirming each other through their worst shared moments before killing every creature. The episode uses its comedic premise to make a genuine argument about what intimacy actually looks like — not warmth and good times, but the accumulated friction of real cohabitation. The twist earns its weight because the logic is consistent: Beth applies the correct test to Mr. Poopybutthole, gets the wrong answer, and shoots a real person. The rule worked. The outcome was still a tragedy. — Part of the Explained Podcasts network. Rick and Morty S02E06 — The Ricks Must Be Crazy

Rick and Morty enter the microverse inside Rick's car battery to fix a power outage, only to find that the civilization's top scientist, Zeep Xanflorp, has independently invented his own inner universe on the same exploitative model. Following the chain down to a third nested universe, a poorly timed pun strands the group, leading to months of deadlock, a brief stint among child-eating tree people, and a forced cooperation that ends with Rick reasserting control over Zeep through threat of total annihilation. Back on Earth, Summer's car follows its single directive — keep her safe — through a escalating series of incidents that culminates in a formal peace treaty between humanity and giant telepathic spiders. The episode uses nested exploitation to examine how Rick's methods are not unique to him but are the logical output of his worldview reproduced at every scale. Zeep is Rick one layer down; Rick is someone's Zeep one layer up. Summer's subplot reframes the show's standard dynamic by removing Rick entirely and letting his tools operate on their own logic, which produces results that are just as effective and just as disturbing. Together the two storylines clarify that Rick's genius does not make his choices exceptional — it just makes them more thorough. — Part of the Explained Podcasts network. Temporada 3

Rick and Morty S03E01 — The Rickshank Rickdemption

Rick escapes Galactic Federation prison by feeding an interrogating agent a fake origin story loaded with a virus, body-hopping through multiple hosts, and teleporting the Citadel of Ricks into the middle of a Federation stronghold — triggering a collapse of both organizations. Back on Earth, he quietly dissolves the Federation's hold by zeroing out the galactic currency, orchestrates Beth and Jerry's divorce, and reveals to Morty that every step of the last season was deliberate. The post-credits scene shows Birdperson resurrected as a cyborg weapon aimed at Rick. This episode resets the entire board established at the end of Season 2 and lays out how the show will operate going forward: Rick is always several moves ahead, consequences are real but Rick-proof, and the family dynamic has permanently shifted with Jerry gone. Understanding this premiere means understanding that Rick's stated motivations are almost never his actual ones, and that the show is comfortable treating galactic-scale events as background noise to a joke about a discontinued McDonald's sauce. — Part of the Explained Podcasts network. Rick and Morty S03E03 — Pickle Rick

Rick turns himself into a pickle to dodge a family therapy session, but when Beth pockets the restoration syringe, he's stranded, washed into the sewer, and forced to build rat-and-cockroach exoskeletons just to survive. He eventually escapes into a foreign government facility, fights his way out, and limps into the therapist's office covered in blood — while Beth, Summer, and Morty have already spent the session being quietly dismantled by Dr. Wong. The episode uses Rick's absurd survival arc as a counterpoint to the therapy scenes, where the real damage is exposed: Rick engineered the pickle stunt for the same reason Beth defends him and the marriage fell apart. Dr. Wong's argument — that maintaining things is just unglamorous work, not an adventure — is the one Rick cannot answer, and the one the show lets land without deflating it. — Part of the Explained Podcasts network. Rick and Morty S03E04 — Vindicators 3: The Return of Worldender

Rick and Morty join the Vindicators — a team of galaxy-famous superheroes — for a mission against their archnemesis Worldender, only to find him already dead. Rick spent the night before getting blackout drunk, killed Worldender solo without remembering it, and built a Saw-style death gauntlet that forces the surviving heroes through three puzzles exposing their interchangeability, a planet-scale atrocity committed during the mission Rick was excluded from, and a love triangle that implodes mid-basketball game with a neutrino bomb on the clock. The final room is staged as Rick's declaration of what he values — and it turns out to be for Noob Noob, the team janitor who laughed at his jokes once, not Morty. The episode reframes Rick's contempt for the Vindicators as something more specific: they replaced him with a genocide he could have prevented in seconds, and Morty's admiration for them pulled his grandson's attention away from him. The drunk gauntlet is Rick processing both grievances simultaneously while sober Rick denies caring about either. The Morty-is-right-but-Rick-won't-take-the-win exchange in the third room is the clearest statement the show has given of why Rick can't accept being valued — and why being right, to him, is already the end of the conversation. — Part of the Explained Podcasts network. Rick and Morty S03E07 — The Ricklantis Mixup

In this bottle episode, Rick and Morty's trip to Atlantis is a narrative decoy — the entire episode follows four parallel stories inside the rebuilt Citadel of Ricks. A Morty from the underdog Morty Party wins a presidential election against media hostility and a failed assassination. A rookie Cop Rick is partnered with a corrupt, self-loathing Cop Morty whose methods escalate into mass murder. A factory worker Rick takes a memory-harvesting plant hostage, only for his moment of freedom to become a product flavor. Four student Mortys make a pilgrimage to a Wishing Portal that turns out to be a garbage dump. In the final minutes, the new president reveals himself as Evil Morty from Season 1 and executes the Citadel's shadow council. Rick, returning from Atlantis, remains completely certain none of this will ever affect him. This episode reframes the Citadel as a fully realized satirical society — its politics, policing, labor, and mythology all mirror recognizable human systems, with the twist that every participant is a variant of the same two people. The Evil Morty reveal recontextualizes a throwaway antagonist from Season 1 as a long-game operator who just seized control of the most powerful Rick institution in existence. Understanding this episode is essential for tracking Evil Morty's arc through the rest of the series, and it stands as the show's most structurally ambitious half-hour. — Part of the Explained Podcasts network. Temporada 4

Rick and Morty S04E08 — The Vat of Acid Episode

Rick and Morty escape a back-alley alien deal by jumping into a vat of fake acid, but Morty's refusal to call the trick a real invention sets off a month-long campaign of petty revenge. Rick fakes a 3 a.m. apology, hands over a "save-point" device, and lets Morty rewind embarrassments, a Jessica do-over, and an entire indie-movie romance complete with plane crash and frostbite — until Jerry mistakes the remote for the TV remote and wipes it. Then comes the gut-punch: it was never time travel, every reset killed an alternate Morty, this isn't even Morty's Rick, and a merged-dimension mob led by Justice Sotomayor arrives at the garage demanding Morty publicly kiss the vat. The episode is a master class in scope mismatch — a grade-school dignity fight escalated into a Prestige-style multiverse murder spree, then revealed to have happened in a stunt dimension Rick spun up just to nurse his grudge. Underneath the prank sits a real Morty arc inside the coffee-shop romance, where he chooses not to reset and earns the relationship before Jerry erases it, which is the show quietly asking whether consequences make a person or whether a clever enough grandfather can void them. The acid-proof cop dying on Johnny Carson is the closing thesis: everyone in this universe overestimates their own immunity, and the bill always comes.

Temporada 5

Rick and Morty S05E02 — Mortyplicity

Years ago, Rick built robot duplicates of the Smith family and scattered them across the country to absorb assassination attempts — and the decoys have no idea they aren't real. When alien squid assassins begin picking them off, it triggers an "Asimov Cascade": every decoy realizes what it is, discovers it has been quietly building decoys of its own, and starts hunting all the others. What follows is a nationwide chain reaction of fake Smiths killing fake Smiths — Italian vacationers, scarecrow Ricks harvesting skin, wooden Glockenspiel sermonizers, squid-suited looters, and a self-varnishing Jerry — escalating until a Star-Fox-styled beacon lures the survivors into a final battle royale. The throwaway target-suit man from the cold open walks in and finishes the last family standing. The real Smiths, meanwhile, spend the whole story off in space with Space Beth, having never heard the word "decoy." The episode turns its own premise into a thesis on Rick: protecting his family and playing god are the same impulse, since every Rick in the cascade is both creator and the deity the cold-open Rick set out to kill. It rewards attention to how the show narrates itself — characters openly mock B-stories, the beacon taunt reads the audience's own doubts back at them, and the cruelest gag (Jerry's cowardice is the one constant across every branch) doubles as character study. By the end you understand why "Mortyplicity" is built on ontological vertigo: nobody you follow is who they think they are, and the show treats that crisis as something best resolved with a fart joke.

Temporada 7

Rick and Morty S07E05 — Unmortricken

Rick finally corners Rick Prime, the version of himself who murdered his wife Diane and the man he's chased across every dimension. The hunt sends him "fracking the Central Finite Curve" — teleporting infinite Ricks into kill-tubes — until the noise drags a retired, irritated Evil Morty into the fray and springs a trap that drops all three into a prison-box for Ricks who got too close. They escape a recorded battle-royale lie and a "Diane" that turns out to be a bomb, then track the real Prime to his lair, where he murders Slow Mobius (revealed as Rick's uncle) before Evil Morty disables him with a simple shirt-swap. Rick beats Prime to death, feels nothing, and walks home hollow while Evil Morty strolls off with the weapon plans. The episode lands the series' biggest emotional payoff and then deliberately empties it: the revenge that defined Rick's identity leaves him with the same thousand-yard stare Morty wore at the end of "Rick Potion No. 9." Following along, you'll understand why Evil Morty stays (the Omega Device threatens him too, not loyalty), how harmlessness becomes the weapon that beats a smarter villain, and why the closing tag — Slow Mobius's widow choosing to heal instead of hunt — quietly indicts everything Rick just did. It's the closure of the show's longest arc and the start of a Rick with nothing left to chase.
