This is Your FBI - The Friendly Killers

Almost any other couple would have celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary by at least dining out or having in a few friends over, but not William and Betty Gates. They prefer to spend the day and evening quietly together in their modest little home in Cleveland. It's now after supper and they've just settled down on the living-room couch. William slips his arm around his wife and says "Honey, it's been a mighty nice day, hasn't it?" Betty says "It sure has, but not any nicer than all the other days we've spent together". William says "Now, that was a real sweet way for you to put it, honey. You know we got a lot to be thankful for". Betty says "Indeed we have". William says "A comfortable home, our feelings for each other, and the work Walter has been giving me". Suddenly, the doorbell rings. William says "Ah, shucks!" Betty says "Now, who can that be? William says "I better go see". He opens the front door and sees a couple standing there. The man says "I beg your pardon, sir, how does it feel to be married 25 years?" William says "Walter!" He says "Bill, you old cuss. You didn't think Patsy and I had forgotten what day this is". William says "We're mighty glad you dropped by. Come in, come in". Betty says "Well, hello there". Walter says "Here's a little package for you both". Betty says "Oh, Mr. Carter, this is .... " Patsy says "Walter's got a real surprise for you". Walter says "Bill, how would you and Betty like to have a day at Niagara Falls?" William says "What? Niagara Falls?" Walter says "That's right. We got a compartment on the train to Buffalo for you both tonight". William says "Would we have to go tonight?" Walter says "Yeah, there will be a man getting on the train with a satchel full of bonds, 50 thousand dollars worth". William asks "And you want us to steal them?" Walter says "That's right". William says "Well, why you didn't you say that in the first place? Just think, Betty, we're going to see Niagara Falls".

Tales of the Texas Rangers - Death in the Cards

It is 11:30 p.m. on the night of January 26, 1947 at the ranch house of Chester Gentry in Reeves County, Texas. Chester is on the telephone as his stepson Will enters. Chester says "No sign of him, huh? All right, call me when you find him. Thanks, Sheriff". He hangs up the phone, sees Will, and asks "Where you been, Will?" He says "Just out having a beer. Was that Sheriff Bennett you were talking to?" Chester says "Yeah, your friend Tovich telephoned you a while ago". Will says "Tovich? You didn't tell the sheriff about Tovich?" Chester says "I sure did. Sheriff just called to say he located Tovich's rooming house. It's over in Biggertown, but he wasn't there". Will says "But, I've told you hundred times it's the worst thing in the world you could do. If Tovich finds out he kill me. Maybe he has found out you told the sheriff. Maybe he's on his way here right now to get me. Look, you got to give me the money to pay him off now". Chester says "No, Will. No more money". Will says "Do you know what you're saying? He'll kill me if I don't pay him, he told me". Chester says "Now you listen to me, Will. I've reached the end of my rope with this whole rotten mess. I'm through. You're not going to get another dime from me. When your mother died, I promised you I'd do everything I could for you. And I have. I treated you like you was my own son. I've given you a home. I've given you money, a lot of money. And what have you done with it? You thrown it away to a slimy gambler named Tovich. For two months this has been going on. Now it's high time for me to meet him and tell him face to face to stay away from you".

The Line Up - The Bromell and Bellows Bloody Bullet Case

Lieutenant Ben Guthrie enters the Police Line Up viewing area. Sergeant Quine is there to escort potential witnesses to the viewing. Quine says "Hi Ben. Haven't got any witnesses, have you?" Ben says "No, I told Matt I had some time to kill, so I thought I'd come in to see what you have". Quine says "Oh, nothing much tonight, thirty-two boys. What's the latest on the Bromell case?" Ben says "Oh, nothing new. It goes to trial tomorrow". Just then, Sergeant Matt Grebbs starts the line-up process by saying "May I have your attention, please? Those on the other side of the wire, may I have your attention, please?" As Quine gets up and starts to leave, Ben says "I'll see you later". Quine says "Yeah, I'm going up to the office". Grebbs continues the process by giving the witnesses instructions how to have someone held for further questioning. A few minutes later, during the procedure, Quine comes back into the room and says "Can I see you for a minute?" Ben asks "What is it?" Quine says "I better tell you outside". They both walk out to the hallway, and Ben says "Well, you look as if you have something hot". Quine says "Yeah, Lillian Jacobs was just killed" Ben says "What?" Quine says "They're bringing her in now". Ben asks "What's the rest?" Quine says "Captain Charlie Waldo wants to see you". Ben says "Tell me how it happened on the way up". As they climb the stairs, Quine says "Someone used a rifle. There are no leads". Ben says "Ah, nuts!" Quine says "That throws the whole Bromell Case right out the window". Ben says "I've been after Bromell for three years and I lose my only witness".

Night Beat - Am I My Brother's Keeper?

Randy Stone, the reporter responsible for the "Night Beat" column of the Chicago Star newspaper, is looking for a story. He walked from the loop to the near north side, waiting for a story to tap him gently on the shoulder. So far, nothing. The streets were empty. Then, from far away, he begins to hear the lonely sound of a single police siren, then another and another. Soon. it seemed to be a whole chorus of sirens. Suddenly, one siren separated itself from the rest. It came closer. A patrol car coming down the street, stopping just a few yards away from Randy. One of the two police officer jumped out of it and was hurrying to a call box. Randy thought "It's time for me to go to work". At the call box, Randy hears the officer say "This is Malichek. Yeah. Okay. We're on our way over there right now. Right". As the officer starts back to his car, Randy says "Oh, officer. Just a second". He says "What do you want, mister?" Randy says "What's up? It sounds like every squad car in the city's on the loose". The officer says "Look, I got no time, mister. Read it in the papers tomorrow". Randy says "Oh, I never touch your stuff. Look, the name is Stone, from the Chicago Star". The officer says "Oh, a reporter?" Randy says "Well, mildly, that's the general call, isn't it?" The officer says "I got no time to stand here gabbing. I'll give it to you fast. Gig Sanvers busted loose". Randy says "Sanvers, when and how?" The officer says "Read it in your paper, Stone. All right, Carson, let's move. They got him trapped".

Casey, Crime Photographer - Murder in Black and White

A dead man is found one morning in the wooded area of a vast city park. Soon, detectives are moving methodically around the body, as a police surgeon kneels beside it. Watching the activity is Captain Logan of the Homicide Bureau, Miss Anne Williams, a reporter, and the man with the press camera is Casey. Miss Williams asks "Are you almost finished, Casey?" He says "Yeah, Annie. Thanks for letting me take these shots of the deceased, Logan. I'll do you a favor someday". Logan says "You can do me a favor right now, Casey. You too, Miss Williams. Go back to your paper and let us cops get our work done. Hey Doc, how long has he been dead?" The doctor says "Since about two o'clock this morning, Captain. The bullet was fired from close range and is still lodged in his skull. My guess is that it is a 32 caliber". Casey says "It couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy". Logan asks "What do you mean?" Casey says "You know who this stiff is, don't you?" Logan says "There was no identification on him". Casey says "He almost became the middleweight champ a few years ago, fighting under the name of Tug Loftus". Logan says "Say, you're right. I make him now. This guy was a troublemaker, wasn't he? Always getting into jams". Casey says "Yeah, he was an all around heel. Loftus's idea of a good time was to pick bar room fights with guys who didn't recognize him, then beat them to a bloody pulp". Anne asks "Do you have any leads to the killer, Captain?" Logan says "Not a one, Miss Williams, except this book of matches". Casey says "It has an ad on it for the Briarwall Casino". Logan says "Only two matches are torn out, which may indicate the Briarwall might have been the last place he visited, before getting bumped off".

Maxie says "Oh, shades of Mrs. O'Houlihan, my teacher in continuation school. She used to say that". Barrie says "But it made no impression on you?" Maxie says "No, I went for, It's blessed to receive". Barrie says "And so you wrote me, and I am here. Now, what do you want?" Maxie says "For you to get me out. My bail is five hundred dollars". Johnny says "Too much work?" Joe says "No, the prospect of having to pay off a hundred thousand dollar life insurance policy. It's a fellow I think you know, Johnny. It's Art Wesley". Johnny says "Sure, he's been a pal of mine for years. He's a reporter". Joe says "Yeah, apparently he's working on a story right now that somebody doesn't want him to report". Johnny asks "What do you mean?" Joe says "The night before last, he got beat up in an alley. Yesterday a car made a pass at him at high speed". Johnny asks "What about today?" Joe says "It's early, Johnny". He says "Yeah, sure, but let's hope it's not too late". Soon, Johnny travels to New York. Upon arriving, he makes a call to Art's newspaper, but no one seemed to know where he was. Then Johnny remembered a small bar named Tony's on Third Avenue. He took a cab to there and found Art in a corner booth. Art says "Sorry, Johnny, no body guards. My informants would take off fast if they spotted one". Johnny says "That insurance policy you have. Who is the beneficiary?" Art says "My wife. We split up a couple of months ago". Johnny says "Hey, look. This story you're working on ...." Art says "It's hot, Johnny, and big, real big. It's about a national gambling syndicate, and it's run by a guy right here in New York. I've got his name written down, plus the evidence in a safety deposit box".

The Adventures of Rocky Jordan - The Bartered Bridegroom

It was a hot afternoon in Cairo when she walked into the Cafe Tambourine. She was beautiful but there was something else, something so wrong with the picture that Rocky couldn't take his eyes off of her. It wasn't the blonde hair piled on top of her head or the dress that clung to her like a football player recovering a fumble nor even the set expression on her face, but when she stopped in front of Rocky, he knew what it was. She was all woman but not an inch under six foot, four inches tall. The cafe had many visitors, but when Rocky looked up into the icy faced blonde female, he knew they had their first Amazon. She says "When you're ready, Mr. Jordan". Rocky says "Uh, ready?" She says "You're wasting time, Jordan". Rocky says "I didn't catch the name". She says "Lily Carro. You're being rude". Rocky says "The face is familiar. Maybe we met in Istanbul?" Lily says "No, Jordan". Rocky says "Alexandria, maybe?" Lily says "The arrangements are made. You're stalling". Rocky says "Look, suppose we take it from the top of the page, Miss Carro". Lily says "Naturally, you're interested in the money. This too has been taken care of. Now, about the ceremony". Rocky says "Ceremony?" Lily says "The wedding. Be there in an hour". Rocky says "Oh sure, I'll be there in plenty of time. By the way, who's getting married?" Lily says "I am, Mr. Jordan, to you, for five thousand dollars".

Richard Diamond, Private Detective - The Jewel Thief

Richard "Rick" Diamond, former police detective and current private detective, had just entered his office when he receives a telephone call. He picks up the receiver and says "Diamond Detective Agency, Happy Homicide". His friend, Lieutenant Walt Levinson at the Fifth Precinct says "You know that's pretty bad, that is". Rick says "Oh, my goodness, Walt, what can I do for the shining light of the fifth Precinct?" Walt says "You can get right down here. I want you to do me a favor for me". Rick says "I'm not going to help Sergeant Otis cross the street again. Tell him to get a governess". Walt says "This has nothing to do with my brainy Sergeant. Will you come down?" Rick says "Well all right, business is slower than a drunk turtle, so I'll be there in ten minutes". Walt says "Thanks". A short time later, Rick walks into the squad room, where, as always, the king of the jungle is on hand to greet him. Sergeant Otis says "Good morning, shamus". Rick says "Oh, Otis, you look terrible". Otis says "What's wrong?" Rick says "Well, it's pretty obvious you've been sleeping in the wrong position". Otis says "What are you talking about?" Rick says "Oh Otis, stop trying to be a sport and get rid of the bats in your house. They're used to hanging upside down". Otis says "Oh, for Pete's sake, the lieutenant is expecting you. Go on in". Rick goes into the office and Walt says "How are you, Rick? Have you been needling Otis again?" Rick says "Well, a little". Walt says "Now you got to stop that. When you come in, he begins to sulk and I got to work with him all day".

I Was a Communist for the FBI - The Sleeper

Matt Cvetic, an underground FBI agent in the Communist party, is currently in a clandestine meeting with Comrade Revson, his superior in the party. For the past few moments, Revson seems worried. He has been reading an official looking paper delivered to him by a drop messenger. He turns to Matt and says "Uh, Cvetic, I have an assignment for you, from the highest source". Matt asks "The Kremlin, in person?" Revson says "Cvetic, you know Shepherd Riker?" Matt Cvetic says "Of course, that loud communist baiter". Revson says "Shepard Riker is an extremely dangerous man. His work in Washington is strategic, and his personal campaign against the party is embarrassing". Matt says "It's time we did something about him, too". Revson says "We are about to do something now. Mrs. Riker lives in this city". Matt asks "What's she got to do with it?" Revson says "She is one of us". Matt says "Mrs. Shepard Riker is a communist? She can't be. It just isn't in the books". Revson says "But, she is. She joined the party ten years ago. She was most attractive and very young. Too attractive for the ordinary work of the party, so we assigned her to return to her usual life, and to forget she was a member, until we should call upon her for special duty. These orders are it". Matt asks "We are calling her back to active service?" Revson says "You will make an appointment with Mrs. Riker. Her assignment is to use her influence with her husband to make him cease, entirely, his attacks on the Communist Party". Matt says "Suppose she'd rather forget that she was a communist, and says no to the proposition?" Revson says "We will entertain no alternatives".
