The rare Greek word in the middle of the prayer. Epiousios. It may have been coined by Jesus. Or preserved from Aramaic. Either way, it holds the whole prayer together — the God of the kingdom is the God of the daily bread.
In this letter
- The whole prayer walked one more time
- Epiousios — three main readings
- The Latin supersubstantial and the Eucharistic reading
- The scale shift from cosmos to kitchen
- The manna model of daily dependence
- A direct pastoral landing for the small pray-ers, the guilt-holders, and the un-forgivers
Scripture — Matthew 6:9-13; Exodus 16 (manna, referenced); Luke 11:2-4
Greek word study
- epiousios (ἐπιούσιος, Strong's G1967) — the rare word for daily (Friday apex)
