Understanding & Coping with Grief with Carla Avalos

We invited Carla Avalos, LCSW, PMH-C (she/her/ella) to talk about understanding and coping with feelings of grief in breakups — whether that be with a friend, family member, or romantic partner. Carla is a bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Los Angeles, CA. In private practice, she provides individual therapy and couples therapy to those who are experiencing a variety of emotional challenges related to attachment issues, childhood trauma, communication difficulties, depression, grief and loss, relationship issues, multi-generational and racial trauma, family conflict , life transitions and women with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. She is also deeply passionate about working with individuals from underserved communities, an ally to the LGBTQIA+ and individuals who identify as BIPOC and Latinx. She is trained as a Level 3 Gottman Method Couples Therapist and she is certified as a Perinatal Mental Health provider through Postpartum Support International. Her approach in therapy is to use eclectic methods to gain a thorough understanding of an individual's most urgent needs: trauma informed, solution focused, interpersonal psychotherapy, motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral techniques. As a member of LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities, Lamarre's practice is dedicated to honoring the unique intersections of clients' experiences and helping them reconnect with their authentic selves. Lamarre's approach is shaped by his own experiences as the child of Haitian immigrants, growing up in a low-income household, navigating blended family dynamics, and working through his own journey with depression, anxiety, and queerness. He specializes in attachment, polyamory, kink, and relationship communication, using a blend of psychodynamic principles and somatic awareness. He is passionate about helping clients navigate relationship communication, trauma, anxiety, depression, ethically non-monogamous (ENM) or polyamorous dynamics, and those recurring negative self-talk patterns that can feel so difficult to break. Feeling Shame about Eating Cultural Foods with Zariel Grullón

Zariel Grullón is a passionate first-generation Dominican American dietitian who blends her love for culinary heritage with accessible wellness. Growing up as the family's gordita, she understands cultural body image struggles and helps the Latine community embrace their bodies and confidently reclaim their cultural foods. Through her weight-neutral, Spanglish-infused approach at Love Your Chichos, Zariel guides individuals to heal from dieting and find joy in their health journey. With experience ranging from farm to outpatient care, she empowers her clients to tackle health while honoring their culture and independence. Zariel holds a BS in Biology from Ramapo College of New Jersey and a BS in Nutrition from Montclair State University and completed her DI at the CUNY School of Public health.
