26.It’s Okay Not to Be Okay: Finding Comfort in Shared Grief

In this episode of Grief Lifted, we talk about, sometimes the most meaningful conversations are the ones that remind us we don’t have to have everything together. I reflect on the beauty and vulnerability of sharing our grief with someone who truly understands. Grief can feel incredibly isolating, but when we allow ourselves to be honest about our pain—and someone meets us there with compassion—there can be tremendous comfort in simply knowing we are not alone. This episode is also a reminder that it’s okay not to be okay. Healing doesn’t happen on a schedule, and sometimes we need to give ourselves—and the people we love—the grace to step back and come back when the time is right. Through friendship, shared experiences, faith, and God’s presence in our deepest valleys, we can find comfort even in the midst of heartbreak. We may not be able to take someone’s grief away, but we can sit beside them in it, remind them they are loved, and help carry the weight for a little while. In this special episode of Grief Lifted: Rising Above Through Faith, I’m joined by my husband, Shannon, as we celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary and reflect on the life we’ve built together. This isn’t a guide to a perfect marriage, but rather an honest and vulnerable conversation about what 21 years have taught us through raising a family, life’s unexpected trials, loss, grief, and the many ways we’ve grown and changed along the way. We share how some of our hardest seasons have tested our marriage and our faith, including the tremendous grief our family has experienced and the anticipatory grief Shannon is now facing as his dad lives with dementia. Through the lowest lows and the highest highs, we’ve learned about grace, forgiveness, commitment, and continuing to choose one another.
