"Death Has a Shadow" // "We Cranked Our Hogs Pretty Hard" | Episode #001 | Family Guy Guys
Family Guy Guys Episode 1: "Death Has a Shadow" — the Family Guy series pilot, which aired January 31, 1999 right after Super Bowl XXXIII, to an audience of millions who had just watched the Broncos beat the Falcons and were not remotely prepared for what came next. Three comedians recap Family Guy from the very beginning, episode by episode, in order, for reasons that made more sense when we came up with the idea. This episode: the format gets introduced and immediately derailed, Stewie Gay Watch officially launches (verdict: not yet), Tyler reveals he watched the original 1999 broadcast at age eight and loved it, Collin didn't see it until middle school and we judge him accordingly, and Jason plays the theme song entirely too loud. This is Family Guy Guys: a rewatch podcast covering all four hundred sixty one episodes of Family Guy in order. Three lifelong friends explain the premise of Family Guy Guys, a podcast where they rewatch Family Guy episode by episode and immediately talk about it after. Jason, Tyler, and Colin lay out the real concept: a rewatch show that also pays homage to Family Guy's own cutaway gags, complete with random detours like Gary Coleman and Stewie's confiscated foreskin. The three of them are longtime improv comedians, so the conversations after each episode run unfiltered and off the cuff, less like a review show and more like the same riffing they'd do after any set.
