The Anti-Jesus

Revelation 13:1-10

The Main Point: The coming of the antichrist calls us to faithful endurance.

What does the anti-Jesus do?

• The anti-Jesus imitates Jesus. (vv1-3a; Dan 7:2-3)
  • In his power
  • In his authority (Mt 28:18)
  • In his wound (Jn 10:18; Dan 8:25c; Isa 27:1)
• The anti-Jesus steals from Jesus. (vv3b-4; Dan 8:25a; Ex 15:11; Ps 35:10; Ps 89:8a; Isa 40:18; Phil 2:10-11)
• The anti-Jesus fights against Jesus. (vv5-8; Dan 8:24b, 25b)
  • With his words (vv5-6)
  • With his actions (vv7-8)

What should followers of Jesus do?

• They endure in the face of suffering. (vv9-10a; Jer 15:2; 43:11; 2 Tim 3:12; Rev 2:10)
• They endure in faithfulness. (v10b; Rom 5:1-5)
  • Faithful endurance is grounded in the gospel.
  • Faithful endurance is sustained by the Spirit.
  • Faithful endurance is completed at Christ’s return.
