These readings remind me that there is more going on than I can see. Daniel looks at a throne that no earthly power can outlast. The psalm answers that vision with gratitude. Then Nathanael discovers that Jesus saw him before he ever knew he was being seen. I spend plenty of time worrying about what I can control, prove, or plan. This gives me a better place to start: God is not limited to the part of the picture I can see. That doesn’t excuse me from doing my work. It means I can do it without pretending the whole world rests on my shoulders. Faithfulness looks different when I remember who actually sees the whole job.
