How to Stop Being Afraid to Succeed! Part Two

Here is an amazing bit of news. Did you know that the greatest drop- out rates are seen with adult students 30-55 years of age. Many in this age group place great emphasis on the importance of education, especially for their children or younger persons in their family, church or neighborhood. However, when you hear their words to the younger ones you can’t help wondering why they “did not” or “do not” pursue their goals. Adults can create so many excuses for not returning and succeeding in school/college or at work. The most common excuses are “I don’t have time now that I have kids”; “My work schedule is too busy”; “I still owe student loans”; “I am way too old to start now”; “I can’t do it online because I’m not smart with computers”; I had a reading or math disability”; “Things have changed there’s so much violence”….. And there are so many more. Join Dr. Applewhite and special guests as they explore how adult learners can s tart on the path to whatever they define as self-development and SUCCESS. How to Stop Being Afraid to Succeed! Part One

The fear that random violence can erupt without notice is making a negative impact on many students and teachers. For some, this sense of being afraid is very REAL and is inhibiting our motivation to succeed at our educational and career goals. The worldview of violence has changed so dramatically that many are afraid to dream, set goals, or network with others. Random violence in the workplace, public places, churches and school campuses has increased symptoms of anxiety and depression. These are Mood Disorders that are causing many students, including adult students, to develop serious apprehensions about planning a successful future. There is an underlying mood of disillusionment and ambiguity in America. A perfect example is the way we strive to raise our hopes and get excited about our Super Bowl tradition in America but cannot forget the tragic reminders of unexplainable violence in our society. It was evident when the beautiful voices of the children of Sandy Hook school sang to millions all over the world as a reminder that amidst the chaos LOVE still exist. We can make a choice to remain hopeful that our fear to succeed in making ourselves and the world better is just as real as the fear associated with the random violence we are experiencing. The innocent lives of promising students struck down by gunfire, like Hadiya Pendleton, is making it challenging for even educators to anticipate a brighter future but we cannot give in to the fear. Join Dr. Applewhite, students, teachers, and guests from all over the world in a discussion of how we can stop being afraid to succeed. The staff and supporters of White Apple Institute, thank President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama for their leadership in the midst of these violent and chaotic times. Understanding Mental Illness& School Violence

There are many stigmas about mental illness in every culture around the world. However, on December 14, 2012 the concept of mental illness was changed for many. The merciless shootings and deaths at the Sandy Hook School in Newton, Connecticut awakened us to the fact that many of the shooting massacres at school campuses were done by persons suspected of being mentally-ill. In addition, the media reported that the shooter had Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of Autism, and that he was “mentally-ill”. Dr. Applewhite and guests will share startling facts about mental illness and school violence from her upcoming book. She will discuss ways to help us understand the difference between a person diagnosed with mental illness and a person who is deemed EVIL.

HEALING From Violence in Our Schools

Healing, both physical and psychological healing is a process of restoring a situation to a balanced or functioning state. The emotional scars in the healing process are usually seen or felt long after the traumatic situation or damage is over. Repairing or restoring our mental state is far more challenging than fixing the physical wounds. Psychological healing from the shootings at schools in urban, suburban or rural areas is a tremendous challenge for concerned citizens of America and the world. The Student2teacher show has always focused on topics that will help students and teachers succeed in school/college and work, even with mental and physical disabilities. The psychological impact of violence (i.e random shootings) in our schools was not expected to hinder success but it has! The innocent lives lost to shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary, Columbine, Virginia Tech and so many other schools, whether by automatic or single-shot handguns is a tragedy. Unfortunately, the tragedy of the lost lives is worsened by those who choose to 1) imply conspiracies took place or 2) minimize the importance of objective conversations to seek solutions, or 3) increase the use of more guns on school campuses. Please join Dr. Applewhite, staff at White Apple Institute, and Guests as they discuss ways to start the healing process from the violence in schools.
