Healing From Violence in Our Schools

Psychological healing from the shootings at schools in urban, suburban or rural areas is a tremendous challenge for concerned citizens of America and the world! Healing, both physical and psychological healing, is a process of restoring a situation to a balanced or functioning state. Unfortunately, the emotional scars in the healing process are usually seen or felt long after the traumatic situation or damage is over. Repairing or restoring our mental state after experiencing random shootings in public places (i.e. our schools, workplaces, malls,) is far more challenging than fixing the physical wounds. The Student2Teacher show has always focused on "down to earth" topics that will help Adult Students and Veterans succeed in school/college and work, even with mental and physical disabilities. The psychological impact of random shootings and stabbings in our schools/colleges was not expected to hinder success but it has, according to many students , employees and teachers! The innocent lives lost to shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary, Columbine, Virginia Tech, to the recent Oregon school, and so many other "assumed safe" institutions, is a memorable tragedy, whether you were in the line of fire or watching on the news. . Please join Dr. Applewhite, staff at White Apple Institute, and Guests as they discuss ways to start the healing process from the violence in schools. Students and Veterans Overcoming Depression and Suicide (Rerun)

Thanks to those supporting Mental Health Awareness Month! Our students, including those who are Veterans ask: Are suicide prevention programs working? How do you know if you or someone you know is having suicidal thoughts? These are the questions many adult students, including Student Veterans, are asking as they witness more reports of depression and suicide attempts on college campuses. In consideration, that over 70% of college students are categorized as adult or non-traditional students, there is concern that education and awareness is not very accessible to this group. Dr. Danita Applewhite and guests question whether the type of suicide prevention information available is addressing how stress, depression, disability can lead to suicide. In addition, many adult learners are completing online classes and degrees while managing the responsibility of a family, pressures at work, and physical and emotional challenges. Obviously, they need as much or even more support than the average student, especially Student Veterans adjusting to civilian life. Join our Special Guests Melinda Vail, Intuitive Therapist and Steve Schiro, Educator as they share information on the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention "Out of the Darkness Walks".
