Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has formally asked Attorney General Todd Blanche to investigate ERIC, the Electronic Registration Information Center, the multi-state group that many states hand their voter rolls to for cleanup, along with a nonprofit called the Center for Election Innovation and Research. The letter went to the Justice Department on September 2. As The Federalist lays it out, ERIC's own model contract requires member states to send in motor vehicle records at least every 60 days, records that can include Social Security and driver's license numbers, and Mullin's letter says that data has been reaching private organizations and "exposes millions of citizens' sensitive private data."
