The NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) is the certification exam that every Registered Nurse (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) must pass to become licensed to practice in the United States and Canada.

With artificial intelligence rapidly finding its way into nearly every aspect of healthcare, we wanted to find out just how capable it really is. Could AI pass the same licensing exam required of nurses in the United States?

Along the way, we explore the history of the NCLEX, examine current and historical pass rates, discuss the ongoing debate between associate degree and bachelor's-prepared nurses, and consider whether AI could one day replace healthcare professionals such as RNs and physicians—or simply become another tool in the healthcare toolbox.
