As North Carolina kids prepare to return to school, hunger and the damage it does is a more pressing problem than ever. Already one in five kids – in some rural communities, one in three – go hungry in class. Now, potential deep federal cuts to SNAP, Medicaid, and school meal funding will leave more children hungry. What are parents, students, administrators, elected officials, and advocates saying and, more importantly, doing? Abby Emanuelson, the Executive Director for School Meals for All North Carolina, joined Jeff Hamlin to discuss what her organization is seeing as the new school year approaches.
