The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts an 85% chance of an above-normal hurricane season. They’re predicting 17-to-25 named storms, meaning those with sustained wins of 39 miles-per-hour or higher. According to NOAA data from 1991 to 2020, an average season has 14 named storms, seven hurricanes and three major hurricanes. Doctor Rick Luettich is a coastal physical oceanographer whose research deals with modeling and measurement of circulation and transport in coastal waters. Luettich joined Jeff Hamlin on the WPTF Afternoon News to discuss the storm forecast.
