Episode 5) How To Make Friends in College
Are you attending college in a new city, a new state or a new country? Are you struggling to make friends in your new environment, and you're looking for tips on how to reach out, or where to find like-minded groups? Today I'm going to talk about how to make friends in college. I'll discuss different clubs and activities offered around campuses, as well as how to use the city itself to make friends. At the end of it all I'll discuss an interesting paper only recently published, that discusses the way Covid lockdowns have prematurely aged teenage brains and disrupted the friendship making process.
Episode 4) The Art of Rewriting Your Notes
Are you an excellent note taker, but you still have a hard time actually remembering anything? Do you think re-writing notes is the end all be all to study retention? Today I'm going to talk about how to take notes during your lecture so you actually remember the content from the lecture. I'll discuss the difference in recall maximization when comparing hand writing notes versus taking notes on your laptop. And, I'll talk about how to close that gap if you want to continue to take notes on your laptop. Spaced repetition will play a key role in this episode, and I'll also touch very briefly on cognitive schema. Both of these concepts were mentioned briefly in my second episode, Learning to Love Studying.
Episode 3) Managing ADHD In College
Do you struggle with executive dysfunction, or just starting tasks in general? Have you missed an important deadline and you think there's no going back? Today I'm going to be talking about how to manage your ADHD in college and grad school First I'll get into disability accommodations, and how to ask for them even if you miss the deadline. Then I'll discuss breakdown complex task into bite size pieces, which is something I highly recommend anyone with ADHD try out. Finally, I'll discuss keeping a task list and scheduling events to keep yourself accountable.
