On February 28, 1835, Joseph Smith organized the Quorum of the Seventy as part of the restored Church structure, following the earlier organization of the Twelve Apostles. Modeled after the biblical pattern in Luke 10, the Seventy were called to assist in preaching the gospel and building up the Church worldwide, serving under the direction of the First Presidency and the Twelve.
