#19 - What is Wrong With You, is Wrong All the Way Through
Esplicito
We close out the metalcore season with Contention's Artillery from Heaven, a young classic. We cried, we laughed, we had an eye poked by a clumsy guy on a random pit, but it had to come to an end. We just put out our companion zine to this metalcore season: https://six-out-of-five.neocities.org/vav0 Please go ahead and read that. Talk to you soon. Thanks.
#18 - I've Got a Nuclear Weapon Called Self-Actualisation
Esplicito
Merry Christmas to our loyal listeners! We hope you are spending quality time with your loved ones. In fact, what better present can be given than the gift of knowledge? You can impress all your dear ones by showing them this episode of SIX OUT OF FIVE where we discuss Vein(.fm's) innovative 2018 release, Errorzone! Please enjoy our explorations of nu metal, screamo, Jerome's Dream and Windbreakers as well as discussions of our future plans. Happy Holidays and be well. The outro is "A Petty Grievance " by Random Acts of Violence, now on streaming and bandcamp: https://randomactsofviolence.bandcamp.com/album/acts-of-random-violence
#17 - This is What Separates the Boys From the Men
Esplicito
This is an episode about the debut EP of Knocked Loose, Pop Culture. We talk about the various flavours of Louisville hardcore, how KL changed it, and what they've evolved into since. RANDOM ACTS OF VIOLENCE EP DROPPED. LISTEN TO IT https://randomactsofviolence.bandcamp.com/album/acts-of-random-violence
#16 - We Don't Talk Much Anymore but Motherfucker, We Hit Hard
Esplicito
We pulled this episode out despite a seemingly neverending string of technical difficulties. We have fried motherboards, shitty audio drivers, makeshift microphones. We still cannot pronounce the word apocalyptic. But we do it all for you, the listener. Next time you make a joke about podcasting, think about whether you could walk a mile in my shoes. This is a podcast about metalcore masterpiece Controller by Misery Signals
#15 - There is Love! (There is Love!)
Esplicito
The commercial peak of metalcore was As Daylight Dies by Killswitch Engage ("KSE" for the fanz). We wrap our minds around this technically complex epic work and try to figure out some big questions. Is it mid? What are these songs about? What's going on in Sweden? How do you pronounce apocalyptic? We also take some time to shit on people who have seen more success than our entire bloodlines: Avenged Sevenfold. Terrible band. We didn't even bring up them being Republicans. I left my microphone at my mom's place. I actually did some producing this time to make my laptop mic palatable but it's not perfect. Anyway, I'm think of pitch shifting my voice next time. (If you hear a buzzing noise, you did not.)
#14 - Death to Traitors, Cowards & Empty Words
Esplicito
We laugh, we sing, we grip the monumental classic Jane Doe by Converge. To do this, we consider the glazing and d***riding that this album has received for decades. We talk about forgotten gems of 90s metalcore (both problematic and woke) and internecine band drama. Kaust really loves this album. He looooooves it.
#13 - When You're Sinking, You'll Learn to Edify
Esplicito
We have decided to face the ever-changing monstrous genre that has haunted our lives head on. We're covering a series of foundational (or not) albums from metalcore to track the evolution of the genre. Starting off, we dissect "Progression Through Unlearning" from Snapcase. This was put out by Victory in 1997. We discuss the genesis of the genre before diving into this core masterpiece. Along the way we discuss the many faces of Tony Victory, the success and nuances of Hatebreed, and the fashion sense of mid 2000s scene kids
Stagione 2
#12 - I'm A Person (with Special Guest, Ellie!)
Esplicito
They said it couldn't be done. Nevertheless, we have become the first podcast to defeat the misogyny allegations. We are raising women's voices with Ellie joining us to talk about No Doubt's Tragic Kingdom. This was released by Interscope Records in 1995. It's a massive album, you know it, everyone knows it. It was fitting to end ska season on this. We talk about things and junk.
#11 - My God, My Gun, My BBQ
Everything in life is fleeting. The innocence of youth fades away, summer warmth abandons us, and your peers will have children and acquire debts. In turn, we sadly find ourselves in the penultimate episode of SKA SEASON. We have no recourse but discussing Mu330's final full-length "Ultra Panic", another Asian Man special. This solemn episode includes discussion of the nefarious Rivers Cuomo, crystals and energies, and literalness as a songwriting device. Also, apologies for the audio quality of my mic. I recorded through the wrong output.
#10 - Basement Dwelling Loser Freaks
Esplicito
Ska season nears its end as we cover These Hands of Mine, a full-length album by California anti-ska band Corrupt Vision. We talk about crack rock steady, punk microgenres, and sympathetic straight edge.
