His latest research explores an innovative approach to molecular transportation, employing the cooperative action of numerous artificial molecular machines. These are essentially photoresponsive DNA-conjugated microtubules propelled by kinesin motor proteins.

Dr. Kakugo's team uses photoirradiation to trigger these microtubules to form cooperative groups. This technique allows them to load, transport, and unload cargo by disassembling the groups into individual microtubules.
