Most of you in this room are native citizens of this country, but you can only imagine how Daniel and his three friends must have felt. Forcefully torn from their families, their homes, their occupations, and their homeland, they were dragged into exile in chains—immersed in a foreign culture, ruled by a tyrannical king, surrounded by an unfamiliar language, and submerged in a paganism that ran violently counter to everything they believed. Overnight, they were forced into a dual citizenship: Citizens of Judah, but residents of Babylon. In a very real sense, every one of us can relate. The Scriptures teach that Christians are dual citizens—residents of this earth, but ultimately citizens of Heaven. We may not feel the physical trauma of 605 BC, but we certainly feel the spiritual tension of living as dual citizens today. In the opening chapter of ...
