Why Eschatology Tests Revelation

A religion’s doctrine of heaven discloses its deepest convictions about (1) the nature of God, (2) the diagnosis of the human condition, (3) the meaning of salvation, and (4) the ultimate purpose of creation. Heaven is not merely a reward; it is the telos—the end for which humanity was made. Consequently, contradictory visions of heaven imply contradictory accounts of God and humanity.
