Emmy Noether, Euphemia Lofton Haynes, and Katherine Johnson made important contributions while confronting barriers created by sexism, racism, and exclusion. Their perseverance deserves admiration, but their suffering was not necessary. We honor such pioneers by removing obstacles, not by preserving them for others to overcome.
