Note sull'episodio

Dr. Robert Winn and Dr. John Stewart welcomes Dr. Harold Freeman, Founding director of NCI Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities, for a special edition of Real Cancer Talk in a series for Black History Month with The Cancer History Project podcast. Dr. Freeman tells the story of how he got into surgery in Harlem during the 1960s with the goal to “cut cancer out of Harlem,” but discovered patients were seeking treatment too late due to a number of disparities. Dr. Freeman explains later how this path led him to becoming the “founding father” of patient navigation, an advance in helping people who face disparities treat cancer.

This interview originally aired in February 2022.
