In 2 Samuel Chapter 7 David wants to do something for God. Now this is something that so many people seem to not do. Many are grateful for what God does for them, but it never seems to go to the next step, where they ask God, what can I do for you? David seems to have completely taken the initiative here, and yet, he runs his idea past God via the prophet, so seeks approval for his idea.

And unlike many who build ministries foro their own glory, David is sincere in his desire to do something for the Lord. His specific idea is to build God a temple.
