In Exodus 29 we have the consecration of the priests. This means they were set apart for God’s use. And they were anointed with oil as part of that process. In a same way we as Christians are called to be set apart for God’s purpose. We must not be like the world, but be different to it. And God wants to give us the Holy Spirit as an anointing to empower us for his service.

Even the Lord Jesus was anointed at his baptism when the Spirit came on him, and He was publicly affirmed at that time too. Afterwards he was tempted and then commenced his public ministry. This chapter, and Christ’s experience are a model of what should happen for every believer.
