In Jeremiah 20 immediately following the smashing of pottery incident (Jeremiah 19) Passhur - a public official puts Jeremiah in the stocks at a public location to humiliate him. Jeremiah then complains to the Lord about his treatment. He cannot speak publicly because he is persecuted, but likewise he cannot hold in the Lord's words because they are like a fire inside his bones. Jeremiah is in a catch-22 situation.
