Exodus 34 answers one of the most important questions we ever ask: Who is God, especially when we fail? After Israel’s greatest sin with the golden calf, God does not abandon them but comes near, reveals Himself, and proclaims His own character—“The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.” God shows that He is both holy and dangerous to sin, yet loving, compassionate, and eager to forgive; He is patient, faithful to His promises, and rich in mercy, but also perfectly just and unwilling to ignore guilt.
