Our second movie featured during Oscars Month is MULHOLLAND DRIVE, a critically acclaimed classic hailed not just as one of the best movies released in the 21st Century, but ever.
Time’s been much kinder to MULHOLLAND DRIVE than the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was in 2002. It received a single nomination for Best Director, the late David Lynch’s third and final nomination in that category; he never won.
Originally conceived as a TV pilot, MULHOLLAND DRIVE follows an aspiring actress (Naomi Watts) and an amnesiac woman (Laura Harring) through a Hollywood dreamscape of auditions, conspiracies, coffee and existential dread. There’s also a cowboy and Billy Ray Cyrus, and they’re not the same person!
