Folks, winter just picked a fight with the mountains, and it's not playing fair. Let's get into it.
Up around Asheville, snow showers roll in by 5 A.M. Highs barely scratch 37 degrees before cratering to 18 tonight. Winds at 22 miles an hour push the feels like temperature down to 18 degrees by 4 A.M. That's the kind of cold that stings your lungs. Higher elevations could see up to a foot of snow. Avery and Mitchell Counties are under Winter Storm Warnings. If you're anywhere above 3,500 feet, those roads will be treacherous.
Now slide east into the Piedmont and Triangle. You're waking up to rain, heaviest around 7 A.M., tapering off by 18 degrees. Highs touch 50 degrees, then temperatures nosedive to freezing by midnight. Northwest wind ...
