Because we're about to jump 36 degrees by this afternoon. Central New Mexico climbs to 75 degrees today under mostly sunny skies. Those winds pick up around midday, gusting to 20 miles an hour by 2 P.M. Tonight we settle back to 40 degrees under clear skies. Push north and the story shifts. Northern New Mexico tops out at 66 degrees with that north wind blowing steady at 10 to 20 miles an hour. If you were out early, you felt those wind chills near 31 degrees. Tonight drops to 37 degrees. Now the desert down south? That's where the real warmth lives. Southern New Mexico hits 81 degrees this afternoon with sunshine and light winds.
