Step outside and you feel it immediately—that thick, humid air pressing in like a heavy, wet blanket. We woke up to 71 degrees, already running 41 degrees above normal. And we've since climbed to 72 under gray skies. But don't get too comfortable. A powerful cold front is barreling in from the west, bringing the most widespread rain we've seen since January.
Here comes a soaker. Northern Mississippi is ground zero today. Storms fire up as early as 9 A.M., with the worst action expected between noon and 7 P.M. Highs top out near 78 before crashing to 59 tonight. Damaging winds and hail are the main threats, but a brief tornado can't be ruled out, especially along the front's leading edge.
